Haha, it will be absolutely ridiculous if Smith plays over Hauritz. Smith's batting has been fantastic this season, and I could understand if he replaced someone in the middle order. But his bowling is merely servicable at this point in his career. He does not have the consistency to be a good First Class bowler, let alone in Test Cricket. Please no.

EDIT: It's like White's selection in India all over again. And we know how that went down.

What i said must be true and have hit the spot to get the reaction like this...
You did hit the spot, spot of Bull**** like you always do. It is always nice to show some facts to folks whose life is driven by utter jealousy and If it is not for India their life will be worthless.

and i didnt even remind you of your team's 60 years of cricketing record..or your online life's misery.
You have only past to live in, I have both the past and the present. As for my online life, I will continue to say, you keep trying.

How the hell does Smith get a call up :-O

2009-10: 4 games, 6 wkts @ 81.50, bb 3-135, econ 4.48, SR 109.0
Career: 9 games, 11 wkts @ 75.18, bb 3-135, econ 4.01, SR 112.2

even Marcus North seems a better bowling option.....
2009-10: 6 games, 8 wkts @ 37.75, bb 4-82, econ 2.39, SR 94.6

Yeah, I don't think even the selectors are under any illusion that he'll actually perform immediately if picked - it's a selection based entirely on potential and hope. Frankly I think it's a disgrace but I can see some logic to it - he adds a lot with the bat and the experience could potentially be quite good for him in general if he plays .. and even if he serves up pies, Marcus North isn't really a significantly inferior bowler to any other spinner they'd pick in Smith's place anyway, and Watto would basically play as the fourth front-liner.

Why not pick Cam White then, given he's more likely to be in the frame for a batsmens spot at some stage?

Because they think Smith will be in the frame for the spinner's spot on actual merit at some stage, and this could give him some valuable experience (plus an early nudge to work on his bowling more if he wants to play Test cricket). As I said, I think it's a disgrace of a decision, but I can see the logic behind it.

Backing a Pakistan opener to excel in Australia is a big call.
Yeah but Stedder's is a rubbish punter. He is a walking $50 note to all betting agencies.

As for Steve Smith maybe playing Test cricket? Nothing but a poor man's Cameron White.

Put me down as backing Smith if Hauritz pulls out and he's picked. Not sure why but I think there's actually something about him with the ball. Strikes me as a very confident type and has had big wraps on him for a while.

More pumped than I have been for ages about this series. My two all-time favourite teams.

2-0 to Aus can even be 3-0.

Pakistan will win a few sessions but wil not be able to sustain pressure for the whole game.

Thing is, as has been pointed out by others, when this current Aussie team has a bad session, they have a REALLY bad session and you do that too often, you'll lose matches.

Going along tomorrow. Hope Australia wins the toss and Ponting tons up. Always seem to time my attendances to miss him batting. His injury might make that unlikely. Also hope Watson tons up so I can hold my attendance at such a monumental event over Smitteh et al for all eternity...

$10 on Aus Highest Opening Partnership @ 1.76
$10 on Salman Butt v Imran Farhat @ 1.90
$10 on Someone other than Johnson - Most Series Wickets for Australia @ 1.50
$5 on Danish Kaneria - Most Series Wickets for Pakistan @ 4.50
$5 on Series Drawn 1-1 @ 6.00

Might put on another $10 during the match to prove you right.

I'm really looking forward to this series as well... will be attending a boxing day test match after 2 or 3 years.... so excited can't sleep.
Might even manage to make it to few days at SCG after new years as well.

Don't expect much from Pakistani batsman but looking forward to seeing Umar Akmal bat and also the contest between aussie batsmen and Pakistani bowlers.
