Went for McGrath and Pollock, but my team of the decade contains both plus Steyn. Akhtar has been too inconsistent and played too infrequently in my opinion.

Gillespie the unlucky outsider. Man was brilliant from 00-04.

McGrath and Steyn, however if Bond was on the list he would have easily edged out Steyn for the second spot.

McGrath & Pollock. Akhtar suffers from "Bond syndrome" in this regard - he didn't play enough. Steyn only was good for 3 years.
And Pollock was good for how long?

Pollock's legacy as a great fast bowler of his era is largely down to his performances in the 90s.

Went McGrath and Pollock here.

Left out Steyn for the same reason I left Gambhir out of the opening batting spot - hasn't been around that long yet.

McGrath picks himself. His average this decade is uterly ridiculous given flat pitches, cannon-bats and roped in boundaries. Went Pollock for the other spot because of his consistency.

I couldn't pick Akthar because imo he's just never been consistent enough nor played enough matches.

Was a little reticient with Pollock and McGrath as their methods were quite similar, but for me they were still the best two bowlers in this category.

He was very good for 4 years and was still pretty decent for 2 years. Pretty much lies.

Irfan Pathan was good for about a year and a half this decade. Should have got a mention along with Dillon, Edwards etc.

I wouldn't have picked Bond. He's as good as anyone when he plays for sure. So much of fast bowling is about how you deal with the strain it puts on your body though, and I'm not personally willing to ignore how dire he was at that.

Well, maybe I am a little :p. But not enough to pick him ahead of top-class players who did manage to keep in shape.

Pollock for mine should be the first change bowler, so I went for Steyn to partner McGrath.

Bond and Akhtar.

Stats and injuries be damned.

I mean sure if you're judging for some kind of retrospective award, McGrath, Pollock etc. If it's for a hypothetical team that I'd want to see play a match...Bond and Akhtar :)

Goodbye Dingdong, metallics2006 and NZTailender.
Dingdong and NZTailender had voted for mark richardson in the other thread which sounds quite logical to me. same way, i am sure they have their reasons for not voting for mcgrath here.

McGrath and Steyn for me. Two reasons why Steyn edged out Pollock- firstly, the Pollock of this period and McGrath are a bit similar. Secondly, Steyn's strike rate gets me every time. The difference between a strike rate of 40.4 and one of 61.7 is pretty statistically significant. When you throw the ball to Pollock he's over 50% less likely to get you a breakthrough than Steyn is.

Although depending on the makeup of the team, Polly's batting might give him the edge in the end. It's a very close call.
Yeah this is pretty much why I went for Steyn over Pollock, am also assuming that he will get in later on.

McGrath and Steyn, basically because its very similar to a combination that worked for Australia for a long time, but Steyn is a better version of Gillespie.
