**Official** Pakistan in New Zealand (3 tests)

New Zealand failing to capitalise again.
True true, although to me it's been a case of both sides failing to capitalise at throughout the Test. Pakistan certainly had their chances when NZ were 27/2 & then 214/6.

Btw, can someone explain the review system to me? So each team gets what 3 opportunities for review per innings?
I'll answer seeing no one else has. Both the batting and bowling sides get two unsuccessful reviews per innings, rather than three like we saw trialed last season in New Zealand against the West Indies. The third umpire then looks for conclusive evidence that the decision made by the onfield umpire was incorrect, and if he can't find conclusive evidence, the onfield decision stands. The third umpire now has hot spot to determine inside edges, and predictive hawkeye (but only once the third umpire has determined that the ball has hit the batsman in line with the stumps), neither of which I believe were available last year, included in the technology at the third umpire's disposal.

I hate these flat tracks in New Zealand. Its stumps on day 3 and look whats happening, the second innings out of 4 isn't even over yet. These tracks are killing test cricket.
At least you can't compare this track to that steam-rolled road they played on at Ahmedabad last week.

I don't actually reckon it's such a Test bad wicket this one. I mean despite the application shown from the twin brothers, Pakistan still look to be bowled out for around the 320 mark, and we'd be odds-on for a result if it wasn't for the weather IMO.

It must have been a hell of a labour just a touch over 8 years.

Yeah, it's not bad. Little slow. The best pitch of those being played on at the moment is the one in Brisbane for mine, plenty of pace and bounce. Makes for the most entertaining cricket I think.

It was excellent bowling on a flat wicket, but it was disappointing they got away a bit because like you said, this wicket is flat. getting them for under the follow on, which would have been a big possibility had we held all our chances (Flynn), would have made life so much easier.
umar and kamran batted well. just give them their due.

I have always wondered about this

What is it about Aus that we don't get may draw test matches? is it the type of aggrassive cricket that they play or the type of pitches that they make?

I don't think they do play especially aggressive cricket anymore. Watson and Katich is a fairly circumspect opening partnership, and it looks absolutely pedestrian compared to India's opening partnership.

The pitches do have a lot more pace and bounce, with a couple of notable exceptions. Until recently it would probably have been fair to attribute the greater volume of results to the quality of their attack. If the results keep coming, maybe we can conclude that the pitches have something to do with it. In any case, result or no result, fast, bouncy pitches make for much more entertaining cricket than the slow stuff IMO.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
It's looking very gloomy out there. :(

Reckon Bond might clean things up this morning now he's had a sleep. Lack of another strike bowler why we left them off the hook, mainly. Or a genuine fifth option (i.e. Oram).
Despite that, am so looking forward to the home series v Australia. Prospect of Bond running amok, droolin'.

I'm wondering how different things would have been if Flynn could catch. Bondy deserves 5 for sure, has been really impressive.

Umar Akmal has once again put the so called senior and experienced Pakistani batsmen to shame, namely Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Mallik. These two players have scored a lot of runs on flat decks and have been hailed by all and as a result they are under the illusion that they are actually great batsmen. I remember an angry interview given by Yousuf after he decided to join ICL where he was saying how he broke Viv Richards' record he said he was the best Pakistani batsmen ever as his records speak for him. Well the problem is, he has never really batted like a champion outside the subcontinent, especially when the opposition seems to have a decent fast bowler in their line up.
Good post.

I have to say, this Umar Akmal bloke looks pretty special. Hopefully he's not another young Pakistani who flatters to deceive with his early showings.

Still waiting for Pakistan to produce the next Waqar Younis though; fast bowling is what I've always appreciated most from Pakistan.
