Disappointing that Mustard couldn't continue his good record against Cowan. Still going strong in the doubles though.

Semi Finals - Valencia, Spain (Indoor Hard)

Men's singles (Seeds - Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's doubles (Draw)

Top seed Daniel Páez Blanco will compete in his first hard court final of the season tomorrow when he faces off against countryman Sanchez Emelio in the Valencia Open final. Blanco continued his great run of form in Valencia as he easily defeated Ion Andueza in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in front of a packed local crowd. Emelio had more trouble as he dropped the first set to sixth seed Davis Kennedy, but the Spaniard blitzed the Canadian in the second and third sets to advance to his second final of the season 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The two previously met in the final at Barcelona where Blanco tore through his compatriot 6-1, 6-1.

  • Seeded players out:
    Davis Kennedy.
The doubles final pits the third and fourth seeds against each other after Chinese duo Gai Kai & Lu Xun upset top seeds Sandro Bachunelli & Hicham Hadir in straight sets. The French Open finalists played solid tennis, but were edged out in important moments as the third seeds advanced to another ATP final 6-4, 7-5. Mark Harmel & Yves Parmentier started brilliantly against David Kestenholz & Daniel Zwygart, but were still forced to a match tiebreaker where they finally advanced 6-0, 3-6, 10-7.

Semi Finals - Basel, Switzerland (Indoor Hard)

Men's singles (Seeds - Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's doubles (Draw)

Rick Henson has shown the world he is primed to surge inside the world's top ten in season II after he bolstered his World Tour Finals chances with a tight three-set win over world No. 3 Radek Špidlá. In an engrossing encounter, Henson continued his remarkable late-season form to advance to his second final in as many weeks in a match that was fought on the knifedge. Henson, one of the best returners on the circuit, was great against the Špidlá serve where he broke seven times throughout the match to advance to the final 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(3) despite being forced to come from a break down in the deciding set. Carlo Amato ensured that both top seeds would exit in the semis as he continued to mow his way through the draw with a 6-4, 6-3 win. The seventh seeded Italian has quietly gone throughout the week without dropping a set, but now poses a massive challenge for the world No. 11.

  • Seeded players out:
    Darcy Cowan;
    Radek Špidlá.
Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard overcame an early scare in Basel to escape with a three-set win over Alex Karlen & Jochen Sas. The Swiss-Belgian unit stunned the top seeds in the first set as their blitzed them in just twenty-five minutes to take it six games to one. The second set saw the top seeds move much more freely and play more aggressively, but Karlen and Sas were also looking confident and managed to bring up a match point in the tenth game. Davis and Mustard survived, though, and played very well in the tiebreaker to send the match to a decider. There they were too strong and secured passage through to the final 1-6, 7-6(5), 10-4. They'll face Radu Ghiţă & Pascal Schmidt - the pair who defeated Rob Bowenburg & Jarkko Maxum in the first round - in the final after they came from a set down to steal a win from Shyam Sequiera & Artit Wanna 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

  • Seeded players out: None.
Knoxville I Challenger (C)
Semi Finals - Knoxville, TN, United States (Indoor Hard)

Men's singles (Seeds - Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's doubles (Draw)

It will be an all-American final in Knoxville, TN after teenager Anothy Ficher overcame a horror start to beat Waylon Jones, and Sam Lazzeri roundly thrashed Pablo Scalforo. Ficher dropped the first set 1-6, but fought back valiently to secure the match in a tiebreaker 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(6). Lazzeri meanwhile had less trouble as he spanked Scalforo 6-0, 6-4.

  • Seeded players out: None.
Whilst fourth seeds Jesse Adams & Julian Day escaped with a 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 win over Jan Krmaš & Vašek Nedorost, top seeds Mario Acosta & Gonzalo Castro could not join them in the final. Veteran Aussie duo Rod Bosnar & Steve Cole proved too good on the surface as they advanced 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.

  • Seeded players out: Mario Acosta & Gonzalo Castro.

World No. 2 Daniel Páez Blanco has claimed his first hard court title of the season and his eighth overall with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over compatriot Sanchez Emelio. The pair last met in a final in Barcelona, but this time Emelio was not going to be humiliated as he was there as he became the first man this week to take a set off of the top seed. But after a lapse in concentration cost him the second set, Blanco recovered early in the third to shoot out to a 3-0 lead. Emelio tried, but was unable to catch him and the top seed finally won his first title since his triumph at Roland Garros.

In the doubles final, Belgium's Mark Harmel & Yves Parmentier had little trouble keeping their World Tour Finals hopes alive as they smashed third seeds Gai Kai & Lu Xun in straight sets. The Chinese pair had come off a win over the top seeds in the semis, but looked out of sync as the Belgian duo ran away with the first set 6-1. Gai and Lu put up a better fight in the second, but could not stop a late break of service as Harmel and Parmentier claimed the crown 6-1, 6-4.

Rick Henson
's hopes of qualifying for the Year End Finals received a boost as he overcame a lacklustre Carlo Amato in the final of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors. Amato, who easily accounted for world No. 5 Darcy Cowan in the semis, looked in the wrong frame of mind for encountering the rampant Henson who secured back-to-back titles with a 6-1, 6-3 flogging. A disappointed Amato lamented a tweak to his ankle in the first set, but said he would still play the tournament in Paris this week. "I rolled my ankle in the first set, but I should be fine to play in France," he said. "It is the last tournament of the year for me, so I want to play that and then have a couple of months rest before next year.

"He played very well today and I was not so good, and as an older player on the circuit I need to cut that out of my game if I am to win finals." Henson applauded Amato on a great week, before playing down his chances of making it to New York. "He played really well this week and it is a shame for him and the crowd that he wasn't 100 per cent today," Henson said. "I felt great out there, which is good after what has been a frustrating year with injuries.

"I've probably left myself with too much to do to make it to Flushing Meadows, and I don't like being in the position of having to rely on other guys to not get the job done. But it would be something special if I can get there."

  • Seeded players out:
    Carlo Amato.
The Swiss crowd were treated to an upset in the final of the doubles as top seeds Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard surrendered a 6-4 lead in the match tiebreaker to fall 6-3, 5-7, 10-7. Local player Pascal Schmidt claimed his first title along side Romania's Radu Ghiţă in an entertaining final that saw a good crowd right on the side of the continental European pair. At 5-5 in the second set, Schmidt and Ghiţă had the opportunity to serve for the match but were broken and allowed Davis and Mustard an avenue back into the match. From 6-4 it looked like smooth sailing for the top two, before the Swiss-Romanian duo stormed back to claim six of the last seven points to clinch a stunning win.

    Jojo Mustard.

NB: The whole seventh and eighth go on average points got a bit too confusing for me, so I scrapped it.

This, entirely this. A wholly disappointing result to lose in that tie-break. Hate these silly third set replacements. Should just play a proper set.

Qualify for singles in Paris (Sadly the Lob doesn't, he is the rock of the doubles team however), and Maxum/Bowenburg enter World top 20, what a time to be alive, where's the moon pie.

Kennedy drops out of Race to NYC

Canada's Davis Kennedy has put to bed any chance of qualifying for the Year End Finals in New York in over a fortnight's time after pulling out of the season ending Paris Masters with a hamstring injury. Kennedy had a slim chance of qualification after title win in Lyon and a semi final in Valencia, but did not want to risk his health by competing. As the draw had already been made, lucky loser Tal Cohen takes his place and receives a bye through to the second round.

Bowenburg/Maxum to Stun CW's elite pairing of Davis/Mustard in a second Round Boilover.

Little miffed that Cohen gets a bye direct to the Second Round While Maxum gets the world number 24 (having beaten Cohen in Qualifying) thems the breaks I spose.

EDIT: :)

The flipside of that is if he loses, he only gets the five points he'd have got for a first round exit (as for all seeds), but it makes a much better draw for Maxum should he sneak past Zhijun.

That's the plan J Max!

We have a great chance of beating the German pairing of Manz and Schiller who lose just often as they win. Love how we are in the top 12 double pairings in the world in terms of win percentage. Fire up for the singles too mate, hopefully you get yourself in the top 50.
