*Official* Australia in India - ODIs

International Coach
I personally think Johnson, while definitley a handy lower-middle order batsman, doesn't have the skills to open. He has some big shots but i would rather have him to finish the innings at 7 or 8. Much like he got us out of some potential trouble against the WI in the champions trophy.

Good to have you on board mate.

Watches matches in India always makes me so tired. 3:30am is terrible, even with the extra hours from the clocks going back.

agree... I fear a drubbing... Aussie bowling attack is so much better than ours that it isn't funny.. And I am still sceptical of guys like Yuvi and Sehwag turning it on so soon after an injury. Expect everyone apart from Sachin to have a torrid time in this series for India, tbh.. :(
Nah. I think India will win 4-3 or 5-2 like some one else said earlier tbh. Can't wait for the series to start.

all our fast bowlers are either out of form or crap will be good to have some spinner friendly pitches and have three spinners in team :)
Think we will play Praveen and Nehra for the first game. Praveen wont go for 6 an over in this series and if Nehra sucks, we have Munaf or we blood Tyagi. Like both the two options.

Also, would be nice if some Indian fans join cricketweb as this tournament rolls on. We always get new Indian members during an India-Australia series. So if you are reading and haven't registered, it is time to do so NOW! :)

Why? 5-2 is very much a possibility either side of the spectrum. I don't see how you can be so sure that a 7 match ODI series will end 4-3.

State Captain
Johnson has potential to be a good opener, I feel his technique can hold up at the top and if he gets going he can really cause problems. But too late to be trying it now with Paine and Watson forming a good combo and Marsh but in the squad.

Completely agree, it would be really nice to see some new faces.

Of course, because one player replying to a question from a reporter means that the whole Australian team is talking a lot of trash. How silly of me.

6 runs per over isn't too bad. I'd back India to chase down 300 at home. Their batting's just unspeakably good.
Even in today's hard hitting batting, 300 just doesn't get chased down often enough because of the pressure a total of chasing 6 an over for 50 overs brings. 280-290 is chaseable. If a team makes 300, no matter what the opposition, I will back the team making 300 to win (except of Mick Lewis is playing).

Pfft. I daresay that even with Mick Lewis in the team, a total of over 300 would be safe.

I think a lot will depend on how India's 5th bowling option - Ravindra Jadeja along with the likes of Sehwag perform with the ball. India's 5th bowling option was piss poor in the Champions Trophy and it didn't help that Harbhajan Singh was crap as well. It could be the difference between a 285 and a 300 score.

If anything the build up to the current tour looks a lot more civil so far than what we have seen in the recent past. Besides most of the players are really young, let's not expect them to be some sort of statesmen.

The Wheel is Forever
Harbhajan and Mishra are two of the top world spinners and our part time spinners have been doing quite well in the past. It is our pace department which has been poor and Ashish Nehra has changed that, since his comeback. It is the slot of the second pace bowler (presuming we keep sanity and play two spinners/two pacers) which will be critical, imo.
Pace bowling is what wins games. And every series we have a new 'it' bowler that's supposedly an except and 'in form' until he gets smashed around for 80 runs in the first games. Ah, to be a pace bowling fan in India. :(

Back on track? As far as I'm concerned he's a good test bowler and a crap ODI one. That's never changed.
While this is true, there have been some biomechanical and speed issues that have crept into him, and I doubt he can just get rid of those because he is wearing whites. Obviously, we'll see.

Pace bowling wins ODI games? News to me.
