*Official* English Football Season 2009-2010

WHat counts as 'any reasonable time' though? Ball is usually only in play about an hour IIRC
Rugby uses set limits as guidelines for an exceptable time to use to get the ball back into play. Place-kickers have a minute, for example.

Minute too long for football, obv, but say 15 seconds would be about right for throw-ins. Any longer and the clock stops. & stop it immediately for any injuries or subs.

Surely this whole issue could be avoided if football adpoted rugby's practice of the clock being stopped when the ball is out of play for any significant period and the time remaining being shown to the crowd and tv audience?

Would do away with time-wasting substitutions at a stroke too.
Nah, they couldn't do that. It makes too much sense.

From Allen Iverson's twitter:

I just finished photo op with Thierry Henry. We first met 3 years ago here in Barcelona.

The two best people ever being in the same place at the same time? Not sure how it was possible.

Completely agree - is there a particular reason that football's powers-that-be don't consider it workable? Would make so much sense IMO.
Word, stopping the clock would make alot of sense indeed. Never heard players nor major FIFA officials suggest implementing that simple change though, which if you think about it is pretty dumb.

The papers are full of articles relating to Briatore and whether he should be regarded as a fit and proper person to own a team.

However, given that the guy has already been convicted of fraud (Flavio Briatore | F1 Fraternity | F1 People | Features | F1 Pulse), skipped bail and was also let go by Renault in the early 00s because of "financial irregularities", it makes you wonder how the guy passed the test in the first place

Well if you let a Thai ex-president who's left the country to avoid serious corruption charges own a club then you'll let anyone do it. The fit and proper person test is a joke.

I found it odd how many people in F1 were willing to speak up for Briatore. All I've heard this week was how much of a shame it was and how much of a loss he is to motorsport.

TBF, given the form of the other options from Rio downwards, it's not the most outlandish suggestion if the big fella could find a gig and get fit.
Haa..nah big Sol was very slow in his time with Pompey. So he has been below international quality for a while now, but i reckon he is probably is still better than Lescott.

Hmmm, have to doubt it tbh. I don't particularly rate Lescott, but the fact that he actually has a bit of pace and doesn't have the turning circle of an oil tanker means that I would select him ahead of Sol, ideally neither of them would be in the current England side for mine.

If you're good enough to play in the WC for England, you don't play a single League 2 game in the year leading up to it, fact

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Have to laugh at the fact that apparently the club he is looking at joining with a view to playing his way into England contention is Newcastle.

Surely he could join Newcastle next month in some sort of loan deal?

though I suppose county would have to be willing for that

Is a pretty arsey thing for him to do imo, I mean, the guy signed a five year deal, and insisted he was in it for the long haul, not all that long ago, and now he's had a change of heart and jumped, can't see what would have changed in that space of time to make him totally change his mind.
