So who are the grinders in our top order? Ryder and McCullum? No. Guptill? No. Taylor? No.

None of those guys will be at all suited here.
The pitch should really suit Elliot though, and Vettori too if he needs to bat an innings.

His original argument was that NZ players will do well because they lack quality. I think his argument now will be they're doing badly because they lack quality. We can't win with SP.

Excellent spells from both SL openers here to be fair. They haven't let our guys settle.

After 13 overs:

New Zealand RR 1.53
Last 5 ovs 4/0 RR 0.80

That's not gonna bring them home!

Awful innings from McCullum.

Didn't fancy Malinga, just wanted to back away to the onside and slog.

As with any slow pitch the new ball is a different game as it goes through quickly, edges carry, bit of movement and so on. That phase doesn't last long though because slow pitches are abrasive ones (friction causes the ball to come off slowly, more friction = more wear to the ball on impact with the pitch etc.)

NZ should have protected Taylor against the new ball, he was a sitting duck with his hit across the line method.

D/N matches in Colombo = Win the toss, bat first, win the game.
D/N matches in Colombo=wait for the toss, back whoever wins it= $$$$$
^^ thats what I do too!!
Hope someone has this winning ticket today.
forgot to put my alarm on and missed out today.:@

Btw, for any of the degenerates here what was the line after the toss compared to before the toss? Just curious to see if the linemakers are starting to over juice the winner of the toss.

Am I right in saying that Shane Bond has never failed to take a wicket in an ODI?

edit: just checked statsguru and it's in Tests that he's never gone wicketless.

Think it was 4/7 SL so not much of a change.

Pity I didn't have more courage when SL were 6/4 or longer early in their innings.

the game should be rememberd for Samaraweera's masterclass on how to bat on a dud pitch. With a fairly good strike rate. India is not even in SL yet i wonder how they will gel as a team.

I like how SP likes to badmouth NZ all the time, even in ODI's, when we are a far better side than England in the limited overs version of the game.

I also like how he thinks people care about his opinion, it's quite funny.

Terrible batting from NZ this morning, but the ball did move around a hell of a lot more under lights. Stoked to see Bond back straight away with wickets on a pitch that didn't suit pace and bounce. Will be great so see him on a pitch with offers a bit more and flies through to the keeper.
