Not too shabby.

Vinod Kambli - It was said he had more natural talent then his best friend Sachin Tendulkar, too bad he didn't have the work ethic.
Great choice.

Some are mistaking average talent and overhyped (eg Bopara) for actual talent wasted.

Gavin Robertson. Everytime i see Swann bowl these days, i reckon Roberston could have been a servicable test offie for AUS.

Should have been in the test team from age 12, all that talent wasted for so many years.

Wouldnt that be a positive thing rather than a negative? Being rejected by the idiots in the Channel 9 commentary box would be something I'd put on my resume and wear with pride.
Yeah fair point too but there's being a 'difficult' character and there's being an incurable knob-jockey. I was a massive, massive Deano fan as a kid but let's just say it didn't take much prodding from persons I know who played against him to let fly.

At times they are bloody annoying on TV, but you wouldn't find many who would talk badly about them as people; they were generally very popular amongst teammates when playing.

Bill Lawry.
Never heard too many bad words said about him as a person, just as a batsman and captain. Although, I am living in Victoria...

Thought that the exception might've actually been Tony Greig, who was pretty much given his job for life due to his role in the Packer saga, and is a more abrasive character than a few others. Chuck in Ian Chappell there, who was pretty anti-establishment but most players seem to have gotten on with him (bar Steve Waugh).

For a lot of his chances he was picked as a batting all-rounder, whereas he batted at 3 or 4 in FC cricket...
He did this on about 5 occasions, IIRR. And if you're seriously suggesting playing as a batting-all-rounder is less of a chance than not playing at all, well... then you're making a silly suggestion, TBH.

Anyway, Mark Lathwell and Dean Headley would come in this category. David Lawrence looked as if he had great potential before that day in Wellington.

Strange how there's so many Poms in this category.
Lathwell never had much potential IMO - he hated the limelight, and with that sort of mindset he had no hope at all of being a good international cricketer. Lawrence was only ever a serious hot-and-cold merchant, and even though he'd undoubtedly have played more but for that horrific injury at Basin Reserve, I can't help but doubt he'd have been that good a Test bowler.

Headley, though, can absolutely be added to the list I posted earler. Really good, solid bowler, just a late developer and had his late development stalled by injury once it'd happened.

Neil Fairbrother
Alan Mullaly
It's arguable that Fairbrother and Mullally could've been decent Test players (they certainly couldn't have been much more than that) but again, both did at least achieve the outcome of being outstanding ODI players for a time.

All I remember from the 90s is Alan ripping out Australian top order wickets (Gilchrist, Waugh, Ponting) with his sharp and deadly left arm swingers. Frightening to behold.
