Bayern are usually very shrewd in the transfer market. They definitely know how to fleece a club though. Sold Man U an injured reserve player for top dollar.

But Gomez does fit their criteria in a striker, built in the same mould as Toni, Pizzaro, Makaay, Santa Cruz et cetera. Just a shame his useless.

No. Hargreaves was in their first XI. His injury woes have surfaced while at United.

He broke his leg at Bayern and repeatedly did his calf and hamstring. Check his record, in seven years he didn't play too many games.

I wouldn't say he was a reserve for Bayern, but yeah his injury history goes back years. We knew what we were getting (or at least should have) when we bought him.

Aussie, Man U bought Owen in May, 2007. The very same season (2006/7) in which Hargreaves broke his leg for Bayern and missed the majority of their season. He had a very rich history with injuries before Man U signed him.

Bayern were laughing all the way to the bank.

Yeah, reserve is maybe too harsh. More like utility player, he never really had a defined position until the World Cup.

Yes, because if experience has taught us anything, it's that picking a player with minimal top flight experience is a wonderful idea.
Walcott was a dumb selection last time yea because Defoe/Bent was left home. Who merited selection ATT, even if Sven thought they where intl quality (which at lest with Defoe he was correct).

Its clear the reason Wilshire is even being thought of by Capello, is because he wants a strong left-foot option the the squad. The kid would be a bettter option than Downing or Taylor without a doubt, even if he plays a appears in a handful of top-flight games for Arsenal. England needs to start backing its talent, Messi was picked by Argentina under similar circumstances for WC 06.

As i said, he could be picked in the 23 & presuming all are fit. No major player could be sacrificed.

Possible 23:

GK: 1. Green 2. Foster 3.Almunia/James.

DEF: : 4. Terry 5. Rio 6. Upson 7. Woodgate/King 8. Cole 9. Bridge 10 Brown/Richards

MID: 11. Stevie G 12. Lamps 13. Barry 14. Hargreaves 15. Carrick 16, Joe 17. Theo
18. Beckham 19. Wilshire

FOR: Rooney, Owen, Heskey, Bent/C Cole

See no major player would miss out..

Even so, he was pretty much always around the ENG sqaud between 02-06. He still very much made up the best Bayern XI, i heard Ballack once say Hargreaves was the glue in their mid-field throughout this 2000s era.

That's bull**** as he played a lot at right-back and never did a full season. Best Bayern XI of the last ten years, Owen isn't getting a slot in the first eleven...

If you think he should genuinely be picked with a chance of playing, or as backup for a certain position, fine, fair enough. Not seen enough of the guy to agree/disagree. However the implication i took (and sledger too) from your previous post was that he go to the WC for the experience. The WC is no place to take passengers.

Its 50/50 ATM, since he hasn't actually done anything for the gunners. But as i said, its clear the only reason Capello is even talking about is due to lack of skilled left-foot options available.

He is unlikely to break into the gunners first XI. So for me all i would like to see from him this season, is a few top sub appearances in high pressure premiership/CL/FA Cup matches & he is off the SA.

Well i aint know expert on the Bundesliga & i'd normally take your word on this. But he can't make the best Munich XI of the last 10 years??. I dunno yo, of the players wh played in his tenure other than Ballack & Effenberg which other better CM they had?

Then I guess Markus Babbel was laughing all the way too the bank on Gomez transfer.

Yeah this is true, iirc Hargreaves spent most of his time (when fit) covering for other areas of the team where there were injuries, as mentioned here his most memorable run in the side came playing a few times at right back.

Hard to disagree with this - I was going to question Salihamidzic but having just looked up his record for Bayern I reckon you're spot on.

To be fair, Hargreaves actually played more than I thought he did for Bayern - he played 154 games between 2001-2005, and it was only in his last two seasons that his appearances record took much of a battering.
