Milan have all but signed Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from Real Madrid according to their Vice President Adriano Galliani. Inter sign another striker in Marko Arnautovic from FC Twente. Dubbed 'the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic' despite scoring 14 goals in 41 games for Twente. Mind you I haven't seen him play a lot, so I will reserve judgement.

Tottenham agree a fee for Newcastle's Sebastian Bassong for about £8m. Not surprising they are going after defenders with Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson, and Ledley King all injured/or injury prone.

Today, may happen but I'm not particularly confident about it. We certainly need to do something in defense though.
I'd be pretty confident personally, Lescott seems to have had his head turned and Everton probably can't resist that kind of money.

It's a win-win transfer IMO - City get the player they want to shore up their weakest area, and as they have more money than God the fee is irrelevant. Everton get big money for a good-but-not-great player that they can use to help strengthen their squad considerably.

Lescott is incredibly over-rated. Looks a liability when he steps up in class.

Pretty much any defender could play for Everton and look decent - it's the way they play. They have numbers back and have cover for most of the mistakes made.

Also why would anyone want to be the new Totti? Another highly over-rated player. Has a bit of style, interesting 'character', comes from a good footballing foreign country, scores the odd flair goal = doubles his value.

Hmm. Totti is the old Ibrahimovic- rumoured to be fantastically good but no one has actually ever seen him have a good game.

Hmm. Totti is the old Ibrahimovic- rumoured to be fantastically good but no one who only watches the Premiershi* and the occasional CL game against English opposition as they're clearly the only games that matter(TM) in the whole world has actually ever seen him have a good game.

Arshavin recently had a Q&A thingy on his website. Highlights included:

Q. Don't you feel you made a mistake joining Arsenal?
A. No. Not at all.

Q. What do you think of Barcelona's reported interest in you?
A. Nothing.

Q. What club will you join next?
A. I am an Arsenal player. I'm very happy here.

Heh, I love him.

Decent ping against the Ities in 04, too.
I'm not even sure whether to call that goal brilliant or just lucky.

Bull**** it's only in games against Premiership sides too. He plays terribly in any game in the Champions League, against a top-five Italian side, or for Sweden. Supposedly scores a lot of goals against Lecce and Reggina though.

Man Of The Match
You'd like to think that with the staggering sums of money being chucked around for transfers these days, managers do their research thoroughly.

And it certainly looked that way yesterday, when Rafa Benitez was discussing potential Liverpool new boy Alberto Aquilani.

"I always remember one game - England versus Italy U21s at Wembley, and he was man of the match in a 3-0 win" said Rafa.

Sounds convincing. The only problem with that is England and Italy Under-21s have played each other once at Wembley. That was the first game at the new stadium, a game that finished 3-3.

We suspect Giampolo Pazzini would be pretty peeved if he didn't get the man of the match award in that one, given that he scored a hat-trick.

And he'd be even more peeved to miss out to Aquilani, given that he didn't play that day.

Good to see Rafa has his thumb on the pulse. Good job

Glad they've done their homework on Aquilani.

Wigan to become Scott Sinclair's sixth (!!) loan home since the Chavs signed him. From the BBC.

Aside from the money I really can't see any other reason for promising youngsters to join a big club currently. Sign of the times, I suppose. With the financial advantages the big four (plus Citeh) have there seems to be something of a carpetbombing approach to signing talent.

Boy's still only 20, but can't help but think he'd been better staying with Brizzle Rovers.

That happens every time a player gets injured at Arsenal. I seriously wonder about their physio department.
The Physio department is meant to be amongst the best in the country apparently, the large amount of injuries seem to have come about since Gary Lewin went to be the full time England Physio mind you...coincidence maybe...

It's quite obvious you didn't watch much Serie A last season. The second game vs. Lazio springs to mind, which he won off of his own back.

Yeah I agree with this, one of the most overated players of his generation. To give him his due he isn't bad, and can be quite effective on occasion, but most of the time he just doesn't show up, and even when he is at his absolute best he is nowhere near one of the greatest players in the world.
