Watson to replace mike hussey

Well clearly at some stage in his life he has swung and seamed a ball. Clearly i have exaggarated. However, do you consider Shane Watson a swing bowler?? If the answer is yes i do have to question wether YOU have watched him bowl much at all. Is he a bowler who will get more than 1 ball per over to seam at the batsman? Doubtful.

So stop trying to act like i am doing some great swing merchant a disservice. Yes i was exaggerating, however 99% of these comments are exaggerated. I'm sure i could find an example in atleast one of your last 5 posts.
Spirited stuff - good comeback :)

One of my absolute pet hates on cricket forums. There's not a ****ing fast bowler in the world who hasn't swung a ball or seamed a ball
Goughy (Kev, not Darren) can't recall so much as one delivery that he's swung in his life, IIRR from a discussion we once had.

Might be mistaken mind, and I doubt he recalls every delivery he's ever bowled.

If Watson replaces Hussey, can we merge this with the "Selection Errors" thread?

I'm honestly not sure. There's times when he's so sceptical of the merits of swinging the ball that I wonder whether he'd regard doing so less as a badge of honour as a banishment to the naughty corner.

(And yes this comment was to some degree in jest!!!!!!!!!!!!)

As I say, we could only do so if Watson actually failed. Because regardless of how poor a decision is recognised as at the time it's taken, if hindsight makes it seem a good one then it's a good one as far as some people are concerned.

Fortunately this time such nonsense wasn't given the chance to happen. The right decision was made, and Hussey was retained.

Haddin is the reserve batsman on this trip, if Hussey or someone else got injured bring in Manou at least he doesn't give away byes whenever the ball does something slightly out of the ordinary.

That's actually a fair call. Haddin is by no means next in line in the pecking order of specialist batsmen, but could do a good enough job in a pinch.

Before the start of this test would have made no sense to make a change like this, but its getting more and more evident that things just aren't going Hussey's way atm, he is trying his level best, but still he is struggling, so as harsh as it may be, dropping Hussey in favor of Watto would be fair enough, but before that Watto would have to prove his form and fitness in the practice game.

If the core-group still wants to back Hussey, then North would have to be the unlucky one to miss out, if Watto is fit, he has to play, his all-round skills would certainly lift the Australian side.

He made 51 in the first innings, and wasn't out but given out incorrectly in the second innings. He shouldn't dropped after a decent game.

Won't really call it a decent game tbh, but he was atleast better than North, so North could well be the bloke to miss out, though the one thing that has been very annoying with Hussey is, he seems to be getting out in the same manner over and over again, either he seems to get bowled, or he seems get caught behind the stumps while trying to drive through the off-side, which indicates he needs to concentrate a tad more.

What do you think Watson is going to bring to the team that neither Hussey or North does?

I love Watto as much as anyone... but asking him to make a significant contribution with his bowling after eight months without any FC cricket and stress fractures of the back... isn't that asking a bit too much of him?

I think he's fine to have as the spare batsman if needed, but none of the batsmen have been bad enough to justify dropping yet.
