That was ****ing fab! The Aussies managed a choke. Wow....so close! Johnson was a bit disappointing though, he needs to fix that up right away.

Thinking back to my posts at the close of Day 1, I'm still fairly disappointed (if that's the right word) with the Crim bowling attack. Their wickets came, in the 1st innings, courtesy of England's batsmen, and in the 3rd innings, courtesy of the runs put on the board by the Aussie batsmen.

Johnson will certainly bowl better later in the series but was generally pretty poor all match. The rest were competent (as you'd expect from an Aussie bowling attack) but by no means world-beaters.

In my view both sides are light in the bowling department. And so this series will all come down to the batsmen. England's batsmen have plenty of ability but need to learn from their mistakes and from what Collingwood did today.

Cook technique is such a worry these days. If the condtions become more helpul for the bowlers, its highly unlikely he will get a score. Robert Key will have to be looked at before the series is out i fear.

Anyone else watching the highlights? I have them on mute (will put the sound on to hear what Willis has to say), and Colly just got out. Am ****ting myself all over again tbh.

Amid all the complaints that seem to be flying about that we didn't play within that famous Aussie phrase "the spirit of cricket", Strass has been able to have his say.

"Andrew Strauss, the England captain, denied his side had contravened the spirit of cricket, insisting that the reasons for Shafayat's presence on the playing field in the dying moments of the game were legitimate.

"There was a lot of confusion, to be fair," Strauss said. "We first of all sent the 12th man out to let Jimmy and Monty know there was time left, and not the overs. Then there was drink spilled on Jimmy's gloves, and he called up to the dressing room and we weren't sure if he needed 12th man or physio. If Ricky is upset, that's a shame."
Drink spilled on the gloves, nice one.

Yeah, TBF, I'd be fuming if I was an Australian, but I don't doubt for a second that they'd do exactly the same thing if they were in our position.

Ponting probably shouldn't have chased an umpire to try and get a blatant n/o given as out if he wanted to talk about the spirit of cricket. **** him.

Yeah, they'd do just the same, that's why it's funny. That and what GIMH said... has Ponting been brought in front of the match referee for that yet? ;)

Yup.

How long should any team need to dismiss Monty ****ing Panesar on a 5th day pitch? 40 minutes not enough? Then the reason you didn't win is staring you in the face, Ricky.

And we're only talking a couple of minutes delay; perhaps one over at most. Even if those minutes hadn't been wasted, would they have managed to dismiss Monty or Jimmy in that extra over? And if they had, would they have scored the 14 (or more) to win in the one over available to their batsmen?

Anyhow I can't imagine that he and the Australian set-up will waste too much time (no pun intended) and energy between now and Lord's whingeing about this.

But if they do, it's a sign that this draw (just corrected a Freudian typing error of "defeat") has really hurt them badly.

Listening to some more of my favourite tunes on this joyous evening, yet another timely lyric came in Prostitute by GNR when Axl sang "I've got a message for you." Oh, how wonderfully apt.

Guys, should I have one more drink? Will pay the price in the morning but...but...but...y'know :D

Done. TBH I don't really see why I should go to work tomorrow. Should be granted 8 weeks off on Ashes leave. If I was a woman and had just had a baby I'd get to spend time with my kid. So why don't I get to spend time with my Jimmy Anderson posters? Not fair, IMO

And on the highlights I'm now watching, in strides Monty Panesar. England have to lose this, surely?
