Don't really feel strongly about it. I think he'd be a good choice for captain once Dunne is shoveled after (IMO) the coming season, but I'm not too fussed. It'd probably go to Ireland I guess.

We'll pay too much for him and pay him too much (duh) but he isn't going to make us a worse team, so I'm all for it. He did captain the 5th best side in the Prem this season, after all. And did it well.

The itstl part is that after all his hoo-hah about wanting European Cup football if he leaves Villa, he could be on his way out of it for another season at least. I suppose there's probably more scope for long-term sustained success at City than Villa, but he's in his mid to late twenties and you'd imagine he'd push for Liverpool if they're still interested.

I rate him, is decent in defence as well as midfield, that always adds a bit of value to a guy I guess.

Still a bit high for someone who isn't anywhere near worth that much, I'd say. But when you're that rich you can afford it.

I wouldn't be going anywhere near him if i were Benitez. Arsenal should be interested in a player like him, but won't be.

Aye, but last year if Liverpool had got Barry, Alonso may well have ended up at Arsenal. which is funny, as he was probably Liverpool's best player this season

Yeah, that ship has surely sailed as far as Arsenal are concerned. There's noone of Alonso's quality on the market as far as i'm aware. Can anyone think of someone?

Mentioned as one of our potential targets in today's paper, actually. Along with Barry, Hangeland, Santa Cruz, Upson & Bassong (Jesus...).

The papers say a lot of things. Unless Alonso has had an epiphany and realised how awful everything to do with Liverpool actually is, i can't see why he'd move to Arsenal.
