Who would you pick in the Greatest Cricket XI of YOUR Lifetime?

World Cricket

Cricket Spectator
I was born in 1984 and reckon I've seen a lot of cricket in my lifetime to pick my greatest ever team. I guess my memory does not extend that far back though . . .

1. Sachin Tendulkar (opening yes . . .)
2. Graeme Smith (most controversial)
3. Viv Richards
4. Ricky Ponting
5. Steve Waugh
6. Brian Lara
7. Adam Gilchrist (w)
8. Shane Warne
9. Curtly Ambrose
10. Waqar Younis
11. Glen McGrath

When were you born? And what's the greatest potential team in your lifetime?

Warne
Marshall
Ambrose

Lillee and Chappell miss out as I'm only considering performances post 79.

EDIT: Forgot about Imran, and Gavaskar deserves a spot ahead of Greenidge

12th: Akram

Would have had Pollock but his test career was largely over by 69.

Thought of him and decided to leave him out for the same reasons as Chappell and Lillee, but that's probably not right is it... Was a team quoted with little thought tbh...
yeah, on inspection, replace Grenidge with Gavaskar.

Hadlee, Murali, Botham, Akram, Ambrose and Chappell all particularly unluckly.

1. Virender Sehwag
2. Matthew Hayden
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Brian Lara
6. Jacques Kallis
7. Adam Gilchrist +
8. Shaun Pollock
9. Shane Warne
10. Muttiah Muralitharan
11. Glenn McGrath

Other than Sehwag, it pretty much picked itself for me. Kallis is possibly batting abit low at 6, but meh, he's a class all-rounder so he can do a job there. A little annoyed that it's the greatest XI of my lifetime though, there are quite a few players from the generation before me I'd have loved to have picked. Marshall, Gavaskar, Barry Richards and Viv Richards to name a few but unfortunately I never managed to see any of them play live so couldn't pick them. Happy with the side I've put out though, just Sehwag I'm a little unsure about.

Holding, Lillee, Warne, Donald, Akram, McGrath, Botham, Dev and Kallis all particularly unluckly. If Sangakkara an Ponting manages to finish with an average 57+, I would pick them over Lara and Richards.

87. Will consider older players than the thread starter, however.

Graham Gooch (4549 runs @ 48)
Matthew Hayden (8625 runs @ 51)
Ricky Ponting (10960 runs @ 56)
Sachin Tendulkar (12773 runs @ 55)
Steve Waugh (10445 runs @ 53)
Brian Lara (11953 runs @ 53)
Adam Gilchrist (5570 runs @ 48)
Shaun Pollock (3781 runs @ 32, 421 wickets @ 23.1)
Muttiah Muralitharan (1178 runs @ 11, 770 wickets @ 22.2)
Malcolm Marshall (742 runs @ 19, 136 wickets @ 19.7)
Glenn McGrath (641 runs @ 7, 563 wickets @ 21.6)

Waugh and Tendulkar to trundle if necessary.

vs pskov's XI: Gooch and Waugh over Kallis and Smith and Maco over Ambrose.

In my sig.
Two questions:

1. When were you born? The Pollock/Sobers selections place you as older than I thought you were.

2. Should your sig team not be your "My Lifetime XI" rather than "All Time XI" given how you don't like rating players you haven't seen?
