Atherton, finally getting at the problem here. Has Cook really improved over the last 2.5 years since the last Ashes? He has the same technical weaknesses and today Edwards exposed them once again. I just cannot see him scoring runs with this technique as an opener, and eventually the English management have to consider whether they want an average opener who just isnt improving or if they can find a better player who can open the batting somewhere in CC.

Agree wholeheartedly. The only reason Cook has played this many games without serious challenge is that there isn't anyone in county cricket who has demanded inclusion in this spot (no, Key hasn't - he hasn't made nearly enough 4-day runs over the last few years).

But as Atherton also said, it one of those instictive problems like the one he had during his career. Thank it seems that Cook may have to battle with as a test player.

But i must say, before his dismissal he did seem to be moving that front foot alot better than i've seen since 06/07.

I think i am coming around to the idea of Prior playing as pure batsman & Foster keeping. But i am not one of those who feels Prior's keeping is as bad - as been made out since he returned last winter.

Strauss
Cook
Bopara
KP
Colly
Prior
Flintoff
Foster
Swann
Sidebottom
Anderson

Only problem with this XI, is of course Flintoff is likely to get injured so his workload would be an issue.

Bopara has really played well today, but no one has looked quite as assured as Prior, who really impresses me more and more everytime I see him bat. Im still looking out for some of those technical weaknesses that he had shown in 2007, but as of yet I havent seen them. He gets into very good positions when he bats and his balance is excellent, it really just comes down to his footwork.

I dont think that prospect should even be considered. He needs to sort it out, or else there is little chance of him carving out a successful test match career for England.

Really wish I didn't have to go to sleep for this next session, should be an absolute cracker, all very much in the balance with this partnership; one more wicket and the Windies could rip through them all by the end of the day's play. Hoping they'll have 'em at least 7 down when I wake up.

I've been thinking about Prior as a batsman for a long time now. If you just forgot he was a keeper and just looked at his performance with the bat for both England and Sussex over the last two or three years, he is the second best bat we have behind KP. I could definitely see him becoming a specialist number 5 or 6 in the near future, the only question would be if he was willing to give up the gloves or not.

No wonder Lord's isn't full. 25 quid for the cheapest ticket is still far too much for an early May test match on a Wednesday against the West Indies.

You can take the piss at football because there are people who think forking out 40 quid for 90 minutes is a worthwhile pastime but not with May mid-week test cricket.

Anyone know why Bravo is playing IPL and not this? Was he just not selected in the test squad?

Aussie, I really wonder what you was doing when Prior was keeping during the Windies test series. He had a ****ing mare. A record breaker.

WI management felt his knee isn't ready for test cricket after his operation. He is in the ODI squad though..

Simmons. Why the **** are they bowling this clown?
Yeah, I don't know why Gayle doesn't just bowl himself. He's obviously not going to get much help from the pitch but it's not like Simmons is going to take a wicket unless a batsman gifts it to him and Gayle's going to be much more effective at keeping the runs down.

The only thing I think of is that Gayle was pushing for Bernard's selection and has decided to dig his toes in and prove he needs a fourth seamer.
