The relevance of Bond today

What would Shane Bond of today have done for NZ?

Yeah Bond had said he thought that he may give up Tests to give more time to his ODI career, but he never said "I quit Tests". He was just realist enough to realise that his body breaks a lot and he wants to get the best out of it, if he feels up to Test cricket then I'm sure he'd still be happy to play.

The point is though that he'd realised it wasn't. It seems very obvious to me that Bond was poised to announce his retirement from Test cricket to play ODIs only when the ICL offer was made.

I think you are simply making up lies about him from just a statement of his where he merely said he is frustrated at suffering so many injuries.

Well he says that he feels injury free now and is even warming up to a first class season. While it may seem very obvious to you, he still has NOT announced that he is unwilling to consider the option of Tests, and while it is EXTREMELY unlikely that he will ever play Test cricket again he has never specifically said that he WILL NOT.

I know he hasn't said he won't, but the point is that he almost certainly would have done - 18 months ago - had he not had the choice taken from him by the fact that ICL players have been outlawed from international cricket.

 No, I'm not. I'm repeating things many other people have said. There's any number who've said Bond was almost certain to retire from Test cricket after the South Africa tour, because he realised his body simply wasn't built for it.

I somewhat disagree, I think he'd have kept on trying till he broke for good because Bond had an attitude that just showed you he threw his heart and soul into being the best in the world for New Zealand.

Besides the fact that at the time when he signed the ICL contract, he was under the belief that he would still be playing for NZ. And during the intervening period between him signing the contract, and finding out that he would not be allowed to represent his country, he didn't come out with any of the sort.

..........the latter you need to remember, as I've repeated about 100 times, that Bond had already decided to retire from Tests before he received the ICL offer. So no, Bond was never, ever going to play another Test after South Africa in 2007/08........
Yup, he said when he realised that the ICL was going to end his NZ days that he wasn't being lost to Tests - he'd already decided that his body could not cope with them.....

You did say that Bond did say he wanted to retire from test cricket. Don't pretend otherwise.

And the  smileys are highly irritating and only amplifies the lack of any sense in your posts.

As demonstrated by the fact that he made no effort to get out of his ICL contract once he realised that it was going to stop him playing for NZ again?

I think Bond tried very hard for a long time but eventually realised that he could not win the battle. Retiring from Tests would seem a plausible outcome had the ICL not come a-calling.

I think Richard is trying to say at that time Bond more then likely would of retired from Test cricket. That is not to say he would of done so otherwise, it is just the likely case.

I said he was going to retire from Test cricket in 2007/08. I did not say "he has specifically stated that he won't play NOW". Because he hasn't.

Indeed, I'm using them to emphasise how silly comments are the best reply to silly comments.

Thanks for the link. However please refer to the following quote from that article.

Then just to add to the confusion Prime Television announced at the weekend that Bond was about to retire from test cricket to concentrate on the limited overs game in a bid to stay in the sport a few more years.

It has long seemed the logical option given Bond's injury record, but New Zealand Cricket Players Association boss Heath Mills said the report was off the mark.

"At this stage Shane Bond is certainly available to play test and one-day cricket, but I'm not in position to make any other comment at this stage," Mills said.
I would take the word of Players Association anyday over a random TV report. Hence my stance that nowhere Bond explicitly stated he wanted to retire from Test cricket stands.

He was sold down the river by NZ, he was told that it would be fine and as he states in the stuff.nz interview he will not break a contract that is still running smoothly. I think he was the victim of being a posterchild for the ICL and when the ICL were told they were rebels and couldn't play he was already in far too deep.

Again, the lack of sense in your posts are visible, when you are trying to defend your blunder. "He will retire from Test Cricket, but he has not stated so ever". That statement makes no sense whatsoever.

And regarding usage of smileys, you are just trying to hide your frustration at not being able to put up a sensible and coherent argument, and resorting to the traditional face-save measure that posters of doubtable qualty make on the boards. I hope you don't fit into that category.
