Watson's move to NSW is now official.

Awesome.
So now Warner's FC start becomes even more difficult with Katich, Hughes, Clarke and Watson as the first 4 picked, followed by Thornley and Khawaja (and maybe Rohrer as first reserve for the middle order).

At least Henriques can now move to 7 or 8 where he belongs

Anyone else think Warner should move to Queensland :D

Please no. The last thing we need is a 20/20 specialist. We've got enough of those. Would rather see Kruger, Broad and Moller do the job for QLD than Warner. Every batsman knows you move to S.A. if you want a gig.

The thing is that Clarke will miss the whole season. Katich, Hughes and Watson will miss half the season each. Basically he has to get past Mail, Rohrer and Forrest. With Watson playing it likely to mean a extra batting spot as well. If he is good enough there no reason why he can't get past Forrest, Mail or Rohrer. None have yet to be truelly that consistent.

Basically this is our side:

Jaques
Hughes/Mail
Forrest/Rohrer/Warner (at 6)
Katich/Watson
Thornely
Khawaja
Smith
Hauritz
Clark/Bracken
Cameron
Bollinger

Well I forgot about Jaques, so that makes it even worse for Warner. I understand that he desperately wants to play FC, so why would he stay in NSW where he is probably rated the 9th or 10th best batsman and as such would be lucky to play 3-4 games due to international call-ups (Tests: Hughes, Katich, Clarke; ODI's: Clarke, Watson)?

Cus the likes of Mail, Forrest and Rohrer aren't much better or any better then the guys at Tasmania, South Australia or Queensland. If he can't get ahead of those guys what his chances of getting ahead of Wells, Borgas or Kruger? We came last for a reason last year. He would have similar problems at our states. Cooper was ahead of him in the FC pecking order at NSW and it isn't a regular in the SA FC side.

Would prefer for Warner to fight for a spot at NSW. Do what all other successful young cricketers do and score a bucket of runs for his club and at 2nd XI level. If Warner truly is looking to move interstate, shows a real lack of commitment from the young lad.

Chaminda hit the argument on the head, if he can't dislodge the current NSW incumbents, what hope does he have at a more successful state?

I think he has the fight tbh. It just that he is frusted about being labelled a OD/Twenty20 specialist without being given a real chance in the other format. He scored a milllion runs last season at grade level and did well in the limited chances he had at 2nd XI cricket.

There does seem to be belief among himself and other NSW cricketers that the selectors are noting players as specialist in one form or the other. Or only selecting certain players they see as the future regardless of performances at club or state level.

Selection on talent rather then performances. Though it the talent that got him a start in the first place. If he moves it would be to get away from that culture as much as anything.

Absolutely nothing new about any of that in NSW. Shaun Bradstreet anyone? There are certain guys who get pigeon-holed as specialists playing for NSW and this has been the case for ages. Anyone who bitches about it is pissing in the wind so if Warner doesn't like it, I'd suggest he moves.

Cricinfo - Western Australia embark on mass recruitment drive
West australia gets out the cheque book, aimed at NSW.
Western Australia appear to be after pacemen. Odd move as it is hardly there area of weakness.

Batsmen they do need, terrible depth in WA batting stocks. Will probably miss North for most of next season too. A number of good young backup batsmen are available across the country, for the sake of a more competetive competion I hope they do find some good batsmen.

In the end, outside of their main two quicks (Magoffin and Dorey), their bowling has struggled. Hence why Knowles was brought in from Victoria.

Victoria has set the standard of quick bowling, and highlighting the fact that you need a pool of as many quality quicks as you can get, because you'll always lose some of your pacemen over the length of the season.

Agree entirely with you opinion. Western Australia lacked any backup behind Dorey and Magoffin. Edmondson was really the missing link last season, they really struggled for depth beyond him.

I just hope Western Australia are more concerned regarding their batsmen. WA only scored more than 300 I believe once all season in the Sheffield Shield. That is a damning record. Focus on the batting depth first. They should win more games with a couple good batsmen, rather than extra depth in the bowlers.

I think you will find Bradstreet himself never rated him self as FC player, especially when the likes of Nash, Bollinger and at times Clark and Nicholson weren't always getting games. Also Shane Lee was the front line all rounder at that stage and Brad McNamara before him. Apart from that season when Lee got injuried/retired and they played any batsmen that score a 100 at grade level and he was NSW best OD player, there was better players selected ahead of him.

Though he did say that he was frusted more that other guys like Jamie Heath, Jon Moss and Mark Cameron were continually over looked as they were seen at the time as the right type of player.

NSW quicks in WA sights : thewest.com.au
WA looking at some sydney grade pacers now and behrendorff.
Would expect most of grade bowlers to go, as there not really on NSW radar. Would take a fair offer for NSW contracted quicks to jump as there would be a few spots up for graps at NSW. Cameron and Hazelwood have be courted by WA a lot in recent years. Would be about the 5th time WA have tried to sign Cameron ftr.
