Nice of Villa to implode at this time of the season and allow Arsenal an easy escape. Should have used his squad more and brought in a couple more bodies even on loan.

Whaaat? Have us in 4th by 5 points and that includes losses at OT and Anfield and a home draw with the Chavs.

ManUre take the title on 92pts by 4 from Liverpool with the Chavs 3rd on 83. We comfortably take 4th on 71. Toffees 6th with 62.

Pompey (36), Boro (31) & The Albion (27) to go down with the Goerdies safe on 38.
Look, if I did that predictor again tonight I think you lot would be comfortably 4th after seeing patches of Villa yesterday.

If I didn't know what happened, I'd swear that looks like Torres attempting a flying kick on Friedel :p

Is it true that the Newcastle players want Terry Venables as manager? I ask because it was quoted from the Sun and I take that with a grain of salt.

First rule of football journalism: if it's a slow news day link El Twot with a Premiership team who're in danger of going down. Southgate & Mowbray seem to have job security, so it's the Geordies turn today.

I'd say they could do worse, but that's only true when one factors in Joe Kinnear.

Hope you UK footy fans caught the Cloughie documentary on ITV tonight.

Now you know why I love Derby County more than life itself. I lived through those days.

The funniest bit was when Larry Lloyd on the Forest coach after they'd won the European Cup for the second time said "Look at all the people. A pity they don't come to the City Ground".

Some things never change.

Just watched it after Plussing it last night. I swear John McGovern hasn't changed in 30 years! Mind you, poor old Kenny Burns has probably aged enough for both of them. Thought it was interesting that McGovern, the man who one assumed was Cloughie's onfield avatar, said that the great man wasn't his type of man and that he wouldn't chose to have a pint with him but would walk across the Sahara to play for him. Think that was Clough in a nutshell; you didn't have to like him but you couldn't help but respect the man.

Best bits tho were the archive footage of Cloughie himself. It's amazing to be reminded what a great, funny, natural, lippy performer he was.The camera loved him almost as much as he loved himself. In an age where the bland, "media trained" inanities mumbled by Messers Shearer, Redknapp (fils) & Townsend pass for opinion I feel rather like I imagine a teenager in the 50s who'd just heard Elvis for the first time must've done.

Legend.

An interesting review of the prog by Giles Smith.

It actually gives the reason I didn't bother to watch it. It was a modern doco on ITV, I did presume it would be filled with comments from Nikki off BB, Chico and Stuart Maconie. It seems I was wrong and missed a decent show:@

Maybe ITV should of trailed it with This isn't the normal ****e we produce........

A proper tribute to the greatest manager ever - none of that "warts and all" nonsense that bedevils some of these things - his sad decline was mercifully swept under the carpet

A thread on ESPN on 'one hit wonders'.

The categories were athletes, people, teams and music with the winners to each to play off as semi finals to determine the greatest one hit wonder.

The England 1966 World Cup winning team won the teams division before eventually losing out to Vanilla Ice in the semi.

We're going to apologize in advance to all soccer hooligans; just call us ignorant Americans if you wish. Anyway, we know English fans love soccer with a passion that surpasses Duke students on a binge of Red Bull. We know our soccer league sucks compared to yours. But why has England reached even the World Cup semifinals only one other time?
England finished fourth in the 1990 World Cup. Otherwise, no other trips past the quarterfinals. Uruguay has won two titles. West Germany/Germany has finished first or second five times since it lost the 1966 title to England. Turkey, Korea, Croatia and Bulgaria all have reached the semifinals since England last did. What, in the name of Bobby Charlton, sez you, England?

Fair or not fair?

FTR, Harper Lee beats Vanilla Ice to be crowned the greatest one hit wonder.

Fair. Especially when you chuck in our arse European Nations record too. Two semis in 49 years. Bra-****ing-vo.

We're now out on our own as the great underperformers as well given Johnny Spaniard has finally got the hang of tournament football.
