***Official*** Australia in South Africa

Albie's six off Hopes was so clean.

South Africa should have played Mitchell out, would have been a cake walk with Albie in against Harwood and co.

As it stands now, Aus are still in the box seat.

Poor old Harwood...

hopefully he gets a gig in the next game - he might bowl very well in it?

Quick question for everyone:
James Hopes - fantastic ODI player, but is he a T20 player? Seems to me that his rythmic line and length is almost an offering in the T20 format?
He's almost 9 per over at domestic level in the T20s and 8 at the international.

Personally I think there's something about him that doesn't work in the '4 overs bowling stint'

He didnt do bad in first 3 though! It was Albie special which ruined his figures!

When Watson isn't fit there is no other genuine limited overs all rounder to come in for Hopes though. I mean we called up ****ing Henriques at one point. I'm a fan of Daniel Christian, but he doesn't deserve to even be mentioned either.

Watching the replay with the young bloke now.

"Dad, why does Michael Clarke have a different bat to the one he used to?"

"Dunno mate. Probably sponsors have a new one"

Clarke gets bowled.

"He should change it back dad".

Cue dancers to celebreate.

"Dad, why are they dancing?"

"They're celebrating the wicket mate"

"Why would they have dancers though?"

"That's a very very good question mate. It's a T20 thing - they like to have all this other stuff going on as well as the cricket"

"Yeah, but why would a BOY be dancing there dad?"

Great bowling by Parny. These types of outings will obviously give him more confidence.

There was an article on this subject on Cricinfo about a month or so ago, and it highlighted a few part-timers - Jayasuriya was definitely one - who have perfectly respectable career ODI bowling figures, but whose T20 figures, particularly their economy rates, were dreadful.

I think the interpretation of the numbers was that T20 is no place for part-timers, because in ODIs they're protected to a certain extent because teams in general don't make a habit of smashing bowlers all over the place between overs 20 and 40. Sure, they'll look to hammer bad balls, but the majority of the time in the middle of ODIs batsmen will look to work the ball around for singles and twos, and build a platform from which to accelerate, as opposed to risk throwing their wicket away looking to hit sixes.

Part-timers don't have this luxury in Twenty20. With the contest being only 20 overs a side, batsmen simply have to go after the opposition's weakest bowlers.

I'm also a fan of Christian.

He started to put some good performances together in different formats towards the end of the season - let's hope he kicks on in 2009/10!

Not convinced we need Hopes to play an 'all-rounder' role - Mitch/ Geeves should be able to take care of that...

Thoroughly predictable stuff from Australia. Amazed we got so close in the end with a bowling attack that included Harwood, Geeves and Hopes.

Really didn't enjoy watching the game, which sucked. Our batting was incredbibly poor bar Dussey and Warner, the footage was pathetic, they kept using these mentally challenged camera angles and the commentary was pathetic.

And Brax didn't play. :(
