Jumping the Shark Draft

Somerset

Cricketer Of The Year
Malcolm Marshall for my repick. Sorry for the delay.

I doubt Marshall will be available but 7 of the top 10 have already been picked, Bradman and Warne will surely be two and I think either Donald or Marshall would be the 10th. Optimistic but theres no real disadvantage going for Marshall TBH as I wouldn't be surprised if Donald's still left over at the end.

I just picked the first 15 names that sprang to mind.

FWIW I thought there would be at least one opener in the final 10, but it doesn't appear to be the case. Hutton and Sehwag didn't make the final 31, Hayden, Gavaskar, Hobbs and Sutcliffe were all in the 11-31 bracket.

Bradman, Sobers, Lillee, Marshall, McGarth and Warne haven't been picked. I think that is all you need to know tbh.

Perhaps someone else can do the list of all picks. Apart from when I'm at my folks, until I get my new broadband hooked up, I'm limited to my mobile, when I can get 3G reception.

I better pick a batsman, slightly annoying that I went for Goddard when I did cause my side could do a quality match winning bowling allrounder.

I'll go for the guy with the most centuries in World Cricket Sachin Tendulkar.

1 Virender Sehwag
2 Herbert Sutcliffe
3 Denis Compton
4 Sachin Tendulkar
5 Javed Miandad
6 Les Ames
7 Kapil Dev
8 Trevor Goddard
9 Alec Bedser
10 Ian Bishop
11 Bishan Bedi

Well it looks like I'm going to have to pick Keith Miller.

This makes my team:

Bob Simpson
Sunil Gavaskar
Clyde Walcott
Shiv Chanderpaul
Dudley Nourse
Imran Khan (c)
Keith Miller
Ian Healy (wk)
Alan Davidson
Anil Kumble
Andy Roberts

Giving me a 5 pronged bowling attack, spearheaded by WIndies Great Roberts and the left arm Aussie Great Davidson, backed up by the two greatest bowling all rounders in history with Kumble there to reap the rewards on a spinning track.

My team bats down to 7, with Healy the number 8 (never mind he is a batsman who made a ton against a WIndies attack containing Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop). At the top of the order is arguably Australia's second best opener since WWI in Simpson and India's best opener ever in Gavaskar. Down the order I have Walcott, who averaged 60 when unshackled by keeping responsibilities, Chanderpaul to provide the glue and then Nourse who was South Africa's best ever batsmen until the missing era greats. Rounding off the batting are the two greatest bowling all rounders in Imran and Miller.

Keeping is done by Australia's keeper of the century Ian Healy.
