I do not know why WC finals should decide who is better between players who have played 383 and 370 international matches each.Gilchrist, how many World Cups has Sehwag set his side up for victory in.
Of course if you add Gilchrist's keeping he goes aheadTo me Sehwag is much better in Tests and they are more or less even in odi's. Maybe Gilchrist could be slightly ahead in the limited version. That may change with how Sehwag is batting in odi's now.
That puts Sehwag ahead for me. I give much more weightage to Tests and the difference in odi's is not significant if any.
Agree With The AthlaiI just voted on terms of batting, which is Sehwag every day of the week. Gilchrists wicketkeeping is what makes him so legendary, many batsman are superior to him, just no wicketkeepers (to his level anyway).
The funny thing is, they're incredible aggressive batsmen in tests but for some reason it didn't come off for either of them in ODIs for long periods of their careers. People often point to Sehwag's fairly poor overall record in the format when Gilchrist's near-identical one is seemingly never mentioned. To me Sehwag is much better in Tests and they are more or less even in odi's. I think that is because of Sehwag's amazing run of very big Test hundreds including triples. The funny thing is, they're incredible aggressive batsmen in tests but for some reason it didn't come off for either of them in ODIs for long periods of their careers. I think I'd go with Sehwag/Jayasuriya for an ODI opening pair.Imagine having them both opening in an ODI....Left/Right combo of pure destruction
Tendulkar would be the first pick for one day opening bat. Also, I don't understand all the Sehwag love in ODI cricket. The guy averages 34 in ODIs over his career. Surely he needs to play better longer.I think I'd go with Sehwag/Jayasuriya for an ODI opening pair.
Its the combination of 34 and 100 which makes him special though.I don't understand all the Sehwag love in ODI cricket. The guy averages 34 in ODIs over his career.
Sehwag's S/R is over stated. Even Jayasuirya averages 32 with a S/R of 91 over a much longer career. Sehwag's career isn't over and not that long ago, he was averaging in 30 range. I will wait till his career is over before I rate him highly as an ODI batsman. Its the combination of 34 and 100 which makes him special though.
91 is as far from 100 as 34 is from 40. So I don't see what your point is? Sehwag's played almost as many matches as Bevan. Unless Bevan can't be rated too on grounds of sample size.Sehwag's S/R is over stated. Even Jayasuirya averages 32 with a S/R of 91 over a much longer career.
