Modi said:
"Michael Clarke undoubtedly is one of the best players in the world," Modi said. "But I think he gauged his price wrong. I've been talking to his agents and telling them that he should lower his price. But for some reason he didn't want to lower his price.

"The reality is, his agent told me last night that he didn't feel anybody would bid for him," he added. "He doesn't want to be unsold. Players need to be realistic in trying to gauge their pricing. Otherwise, the franchises are going to be tough on them and reject them."

Whatever it takes!!!
Since when do players have any say over their base price?
since this year, apparently..

Even I am confused. I thought the base prices would be decided by some other guys or the IPL board or something, based on demand and expected demand and the rest of that management bull****...

IPL terminates contracts of 6 players

Shahid Afridi (two hoots to that!! Well done)
Shoiab Malik (no much value anyway)
Younis Khan (ditto)
Salman Butt ()
Mohd. Hafeez (Who?)

and

Princess Shoiab!!!!

However the remaining 4, Tanvir, Gul, Misbah and Akmal have been retained.

Excellent decision not to harbour incompetent overseas players just for the sake of propitiating PCB. While the deserving have been taken care of.

And dont forget the little FACT that Pakistani players arent allowed to travel to India this year so naturally some of the older players (who may not be around next year) have been cut so the teams can have more firepower to bid at the auction

Nothing. Just that he is not required. Don't forget his decision to skip Champions League for South Australia. Didn't go down well with the IPL.
I thought Royals were quite happy with that as they already had plenty of overseas batsmen.

Anyway, I'm quite liking this whole thing about Modi wanting rid of players. Shows how the IPL isn't the solution for everyone.

On the one hand we're told that the "new" system contradicts that in place last year where the price was set by interested teams and the IPL with no input from the players/agents

On the other we're told that a player wont play in a mickey mouse competition unless the price is so high that he cant afford not to

Something tells me that the truth is somewhere in between

I just thought that they were suspending their contracts for a year. I'm sure Younis Khan will still be a good player next year. Oh well, Rajasthan will have to buy 5 players within its £2 million, so I can't see them splashing the cash whatever happens.

Glad to see a sensible comment from someone about the situation. :)

No, the contracts have been terminated. Unless Indo-Pak ties unexpectedly strengthen to levels of 2004-05, I don't see them coming back.

Yeah, in fact I was flabbergasted by the likes of Dominic Cork, Gough etc trying to make a quickie in the IPL. It is the Premier League for FFS.

Not all the contracts have been terminated. It says that Rajasthan have suspended the contracts of Tanvir and Akmal for one year.

It's very sad if relations mean that Pakistani players are not able to play in the IPL. Although I guess the upside for counties is that they can pick them this summer and then hopefully have them available for the Champions League.

There's no reason why they shouldn't put feelers out. Lots of players are interested in other domestic competitions, such as county cricket, it's just that the IPL likes to have an ego-boost by pulishing a list of anyone who's interested.

Indeed. The IPL is seen as a global phenomenon but I don't think it will be too long before all the mediocre talent is purged and we are left with a relative few with IPL contracts.

Yep. Except for Tanvir, Akmal (Raj Royals), Gul (KKR) and Misbah (RC), all other Pakistani players' contracts have been terminated.

Lol, blame the IPL? It is ofcourse open to receiving applications. But good to see some sense of "premiership" of the contest is maintained.
