Sorry if this has already been asked as I have joined the thread late, but if SA went 8 or 9 down with say, >50 left, would Smitteh (the cheap imitation version) come out to bat, or is he completely done?
Reckon he'll come out if it's only a couple of overs, or less than say 15 runs, otherwise I doubt it. He can literally hold the bat with only 1 hand apparently.

Good stuff from Ronald it seems, glad that Kallis didn't get past 10,000 runs this series tbh.

Great catch from McDonald.

Pitch playing a big part here, really can't see South Africa batting all day. Only going to get tougher out there as the day goes on.

Interesting view from CricInfo, sounds like a very tough call to give him out. Benefit in favour of the batsman ?

35.3 McDonald to Kallis, OUT, oh well held, McDonald .. or not? Pitches it up down the stumps, Kallis goes back and starts to turn it to the on side, but the ball takes a leading edge and balloons back up in the air towards the bowler, who flings himself to his right in his follow through and looks like he's taken a stunner ... his team-mates converge but Kallis asks for confirmation, and McDonald admits he's not sure. To the naked eye it looked like he took it, Ponting sticks up a finger even before the umpires are consulted, and after numerous analysis Kallis is adjudged out. Thats a very, very tough call. One angle indicates he took it, the straight view says something else. I'm not convinced he took it.

The rear angle replay showed MacDonald getting under the ball.

Billy thought it was out - but went to the third umpire; third ump saw no reason to overturn Billy's decision - OUT.

It was just as close as Smith's catch in the slips that was also referred to the third umpire. Both out.

Yeah there wasn't any particular evidence on replay to overturn it. Looked like he got his fingers under the ball, especially from the rear angle.

Both Kallis and McDonald seemed uncertain at first, so it seems like they went the right way with it. As usual though, replay wasn't totally conclusive so there's no closure on the matter.

As a comparison, if you freezframed the catch Smith took in Melbourne, you could easily make a case for it touching the ground as well.

inbox24,

You can't tell if his fingers are under the ball or not from that frame.
The ball is shading where the fingers may or may not be. Definitely isn't conclusive from that angle.
