Today was absolutely ****ing ridiculous

i keep hoping, talking up their potential

but they continually slap us all in the face

show some ****ing guts for **** sake

and someone teach them to move their ****ing feet

All i can hope is that Andy Moles can instill a brain into these blokes

ITS EMBARASSING!!!!!!!
More like infuriating, tbh. Watched the whole days play, what there was of it, and had that aweful sinking feeling on the second ball. Pity really, been too busy with uni to follow much of the tests live, and was looking forward to spending a proper day on the couch watching the cricket, and hopefully seeing the Black Caps make the Australians earn and sweat a win. Not to be though. Shame about McCullum not being able to make a 100 - he looked like he would get it easy enough.

Unfortunately, the performances being played out in front of him tend to leave him with little choice but to be critical.
Of course, I wasn't having a go at him. Just saying our commentators tend to go the other way when talking about the NZ team, and fair enough.

Yeah, no worries - I knew that. I do like the fact our commentators will have a go at our players, even if they're on top. Regardless of the actual quality, I find the separation between the Sky NZ team and the Black Caps much more distinct than the love-in ****-fest ("come up for a spot of commentary, Gilly/Roy - we promise that Nicholas will keep it in his pants for the first five minutes at least") that appears to operate between Channel 9 and Cricket Australia.

Oh, how things change. :donatello
Regret ever calling him O'Diren tbh.

Mind you, he was a fairly shocking bowler there for a while, but it's become apparent that that was more mental than anything. Glad he's grown into the role and is doing well.

Looking at our top 7, only Ryder, Taylor, and McCullum make the grade.

I did think that Ryder would make a good number 3, and still do, but as some comments have pointed out he may be better served as a number 5 with Taylor retaining the traditional best batters spot at number 4. However that is contingent on NZ finding a decent number 3, until then I dont see any other option but for one of our best two bats coming in at number 3. McCullum should remain at number 7, its his spot, and by the looks of it the tail will continue to give him better support than any of the 'proper' batters.

Bit disappointed in Flynn. Heard a bit about him, and watched him on some highlights packages, but he has serious flaws with technique (namely stepping too far across and that weird double bat swing) which mean that however gutsy he may be, unless he corrects them, he is never going to be going anywhere - especially against quicker bowlers. This is probably already indicated by the fact, iirc, that his average is in the mid 30s but he has yet to pass 50.

If our batters had half the fighting spirit of our bowling outfit, who remain competitive, we would probably do a lot better.

Well, McCullum's quickfire innings eased some of the pain at least in a fighting sort of way.

This tour was always going to be a tour of promises and unknowns rather than results and expectations. Bowling did well as I said before, and by other people.
Batting-wise Taylor seems to be alright, if not prone to getting himself out when set. Hate the fact Fulton's out of touch, as when in form he can be sublime and would be a great asset to the middle order, but I have a terrible feeling he'll get the chop for the WI Test - although if it's for Oram it could be okay.
Still seem slightly unconvinced of Flynn. He can do the gritty innings, great, but what we really need is for him to get past the grit and make a big score. Seems to like getting bogged down then can't get his way out of a deep hole. lack of experience showing there, definitely needs more FC stuff.

As far as commentating go, reckon the guys who end up in the commentary box do so because if they knew anything about cricket they'd probably be a coach, but instead they're dire, know little, and comment on the game. 'cept Slats.

Also, this thread has at times been an absolute pit of utter rubbish from time to time in regards to some posters, cheap shots and general ****tyness. I think only in the India-Australia threads have I only ever been disappointed and unenthused more than this because of a generally poor atmosphere.

That's not to say there hasn't been great contributions, from both sides. Have enjoyed reading posts in particular from Top_Cat, Athlai, Polo23, Clapo, smiffeh (dontcloseyoureyes to others), Burgey, pasag, Bahnz, GGG and Prince EWS.
Not to say the others weren't good, just these guys stood out a bit for mine.

Looking forward to the first test vs West Indies. Will be actually able to watch it at the ground - can't wait.

Agreed, the orgasmic love fest of the channel 9 jizz team is vomit inducing.

Pity I did not get to hear them while India was wiping the floor with their beloved "Baggy Green".

A bit late on this, but it was particularly pleasing to see Haddin score a ton. He's a nice bloke and deserved it. Hopefully this keeps him safe from speculation for another 2 tests.

I find it funny that to support an argument that the NZ commentators are biased, the example of that Gillespie innings was used. How about the things they said about Hayden's innings earlier in that same game?
I don't think they're particularly biased personally, although Ian Smith whines like a 747 if there's a poor decision or a perceived injustice. Some of the 9 team probably do the same though.

It was always wrong to call him that. I said he's a quality bowler and would take wickets given the chance. He was pretty lucky to stay in the team at times, but its paid off. Plus, as those recent readers of his blog will have picked up, he's a top bloke (unlike a good number of professional sportsmen)

I'm also glad that there's no GoBrien Supporters Club. I more than fulfil that role  Ooooh yeah!

Cult hero? My only remembrance of Heath Davis is he getting pummelled by Tendulkar in an ODI in 1997.
Pah. Any old chump can watch a game with Tendulkar in. How many ODIs has he played now?

Now watching a player like Davis, well, that's commitment. Saw 'live' at least 2 tests that Davis played in. Probably more than that. He earned my respect with his sculpted curly blonde locks, immense pace and complete lack of brain matter. What a legend!
