There was a bit in the wicket though...and some comments were a bit silly given the state of the deck and the match. It was as if everything was normal and we simply batted poorly. There's a difference between India, where we've struggled at the best of times, and the Gabba on a wicket that lacked a little preparation. As I said before, Vettori bowled for a reason, and I suspect he would have been bitterly disappointed if Australia got 300+ in the first innings which sums things up really. NZ did well to utilise the conditions, and batting wasn't ridiculously easy.

conditions like this is what test cricket is all about, varying pitches, sorting out the men from the boys, performances like clarke and katich is how it should be toughed out, batsmen have had it easy the world round for years with 'generic' pitches, i personally am loving the contest, CA will probably launch an investigation due to lost revenue however

Pretty sure it was the ineffective bowling that was the main reason behind Australia losing in India.

Preparation, team selection, batting, bowling, fielding

that was the main reason, but being able to put runs on the board takes the pressure off the bowlers, if the aussies had been able to make 350-400+ consistently then the results may have been different

it's actually normally a road, only the rain helped (or hindered) it's preparation, despite being almost always a little green, massive scores are normally knocked up on day one of a test match, although i guess that could have more to do with quality of opposition and quality of the aussies as well

as a general rule, australian pitches are getting more and more the same as each other, still hard though, which means most tourists will need to adjust.

Bowling wins matches, batting saves them for the most part. We didn't win in India because our bowlers had zero penetration. But I agree we could have done better with the bat as I said 'we were below par and it was disappointing at times'.

Yes, I know, however, Warne liked the Gabba because of the bounce - it was his favourite pitch. Warne's said many times that the key for spinners is not too much spin; a certain amount is enough. He's mentioned that the Gabba gives enough spin but gives the kind of bounce other pitches aren't likely to give you. I wouldn't call it a spinner's paradise by any means but good enough for a spinner to work his magic. Unfortunately, this is lost as most spinners have been pasted in Australia, regardless where they've bowled.

It's seriously time for McCullum to play a genuine test match innings but I highly doubt he will
