I just hope things don't end up going like they did in the 2nd test against England at the basin, were we had them about 150/6 and then they recovered to 300.

According to cricinfo, Big Fat Jesse is working up some decent speed. Any speedo readings?
Mid 120s.

The batting will be the acid test. I still think Australia will win, but How, Ryder, Taylor and McCullum, along with Vettori, are all capable of big scores. Redmond, Flynn and Elliott are the unknowns and who knows, maybe Southee will slog some runs?

Put O'Brien back on, him and Southee to tear through the tail. Elliott has bowled well today though. As I speak Clarke makes Elliott look dificult again.

Thing is though, if they get Australia out for <200, it makes the pre-test talk about needing 300+ in your first innings less of a big deal. That might well take some pressure of the batting.

See, this is what ****s me to tears.

Taylor and Chappell are on now saying Australia should either score quickly or get out, or the bowlers will be saying they'd rather be bowling now.

Yeah, coz Chappell and Taylor used to tell their blokes to get out deliberately at 8/160.

I can't recall either of them declaring on such a score either in a 1st innings. They're more attacking now than they were when in charge.

 Perhaps the best alterative? Australia are literally going nowhere with such a RR.

You've gotta be kidding me. You're going to declare around 180 without even giving a bloke who's capable of scoring a fifty a bat. Terrible form Chappeli.

Bloody hell...you go away for an hour and this happens! Good work NZ on bowling well in the conditions, a lot of teams have wasted it before.

Aus picks an out of form batting lineup that has been playing on low bouncing tracks on the subcontinent until last week

Gee, this collapse has come as a real surprise

Especially when this wicket's the polar opposite to what they've been playing on really (actually the polar opposite would be unplayable, but I'll continue anyway)...as I said before, let's not get carried away with the first day's cricket. As an Aussie fan I'm not too concerned, sure it would have been nice to see us get to 400...or even 300...250 anyone!? But NZ still have to bat...and it's the first day, did I mention that before? There's a reason Vettori bowled first.

The last scale reading was 145.

And thats why I don't understnad Chappelis popularity. Last season, if Sehwag got out to a stupid shot (got to remember the context he was selected in) 'thats just the way he plays.'

Either way. Southee to play lock on Saturday and Vettori to play centre, only way the Kiwis will win the cup.

Social is the biggest Australian pessimist and over exaggeraterer (made that one up) in the entire solar system though.

Good to see Clarke has dug in, sure he's looked streaky at times, but it at least shows those who doubted him (not me btw) that he can bat under pressure. I'm expecting someone to discount it because it's NZ, or because he's been lucky etc.

I think Ryder to replace a couple of the nzers too in the match
