**Official** New Zealand in Australia

This is the best first day performance from a New Zealand side i've seen since...since...probably the first day of that test against England at Christchurch back in...2003? The one where Cairns tore their top order to shreds, then Astle hit the double ton.

Hmm i dunno i remember mocking some early post about how this team was as good as the 2001 team now i may have to take my comments back... but i shall wait for the batting first.

I actually don't think they've actually bowled much better than they usually do. As I said before the series, they have a pretty good attack for the conditions and their bowlers shouldn't be taken lightly. Their big test will be with the bat though.

I mean that more for there catching in Nsw they couldn't catch a cold.

On paper this team is no where near that team of 2001. But matches arent played on paper.

NZ has shown real guts and determination here, we havn't rolled over, and we have stuck to our plans. I'm pretty sure there will be a few shocked Australians eating humble pie, regardless of how our batting performs.

Yes, they're a plucky little team who always play above their weight, so to speak.

Except for Ryder.

Dons annoying patronising hat which Kiwi posters always hate on here
thats the little thing that makes me the lifelong fan of NZ cricket

Aus picks an out of form batting lineup that has been playing on low bouncing tracks on the subcontinent until last week

Gee, this collapse has come as a real surprise

I'm hoping this won't go like the SA test where we mauled them for 206 then collapsed. Still, SA's attack is arguably better than Aussies and we have a slightly better opening combo. (Redmond cancels out How to an extent).

Who else were they expected to pick?

Been working all afternoon, so I'm pretty bloody stoked to see us doing so well. Hope we can keep it up.

Yeah, what's Symonds' excuse then?

I just hope things don't end up going like they did in the 2nd test against England at the basin, were we had them about 150/6 and then they recovered to 300.

According to cricinfo, Big Fat Jesse is working up some decent speed. Any speedo readings?
