Bangladesh in South Africa

Amla has scored at a good rate also, but not taken any undue risks. When he has gone over the top off the spinners he has done so assertively and confidently. Very very impressive.

Smith has played yet another excellent innings, Test career average at the moment in excess of 50, speaks volumes.

The SA attack could well have caused havoc, and most probably will, when they get chance to let rip out there. Also been a bit of turn out there, which will not disappoint Harris, although I only believe him to be an average spinner.

Another thing (sorry to bore everyone), Makhaya Ntini is selected for this Test, is there anyone really pushing him at the moment? After watching him in England for the majority of the time he did not appear threatening or terribly economal. One of things this SA side is missing is a bowler that Smith can turn to to give them some control, I suppose he uses Kallis that way. But a Stuart Clark style bowler, that can just put the brakes on a side should they be scoring a little too freely.

No. Fair play to Makhaya though, he went back to the Warriors and tore it up big time. The guy has a point to prove and every time he has come in for stick he inevitably comes back well.

Yes I noticed he's picked up quite a few wickets for the Warriors so far this season, and that's the best way to answer the critics, top domestic form. I can't see him either restricting Australia or picking up wickets with any great frequency, although his experience will be important considering the relatively inexperienced attack at the moment.

I think Hayden and co may well feast on his offerings mind.

Usually players loses their silken touch when they changes their stance or style! Example : Irfan Pathan, he was regarded as next Wasim Akram but now that boy is NOBODY at the age of 24

Amla changed his technique / stance a little and he looks as solid as a rock! In superb form!

Why is there only one 250 plus score (Sarwan's 261 not out) against Bangladesh ?

If Ntini fails to impress against the BD, Aussie tour should be his last if he does not perform there! We can try Lonwobe Tsotsobe or Wayne Parnell.

Southee, Kohli played in the same youth world cup as Parnell and they have a good position in the team...give the kid a taste of international cricket!

I would imagine sides declare much earlier against Bangladesh, aware that around 450-500 should probably be enough on the board to bowl Bangladesh out twice without needing to bat again. So the chances of an individual getting in excess of 300 means he got to go at an exceptional strike rate.

Still has his bat waiving towards gully though. Doesn't look like his changed his game that dramatically to me, he just plays to his strengths and plays as late as possible. Hashim's got tremendous wrists and an awesome ability to work anything around middle or off into the onside with ease.

His major test will come against Australia though, were firstly he will be confronted with some pace and then a metronome bowler in Stuart Clark who will look to exploit his faults outside and around off stump but if he can get through that then his practically home and dry.

I’m with you! :) If South Africa were playing anyone but Australia this year, I would be all for the kid getting chucked into the side. I think it is a question of when not if with Parnell.

Finally Smith gets his average above 50. Though the countries he average above 50 against are Bangladesh (95), Zimbabwe (81), Windies (72) and England (56). The typical MB.

No I don't think it comes as much surprise that someone averages more against weaker countries and I don't really see why he should be discredited for it.. Seems like a fairly logical statistic to me

No discredit, Just pointing out that he has a sub-career avg against the other 5 teams. If I were to be Richard, his career avg would be somewhere between 40 and 45. 50 makes him enter the "Best" batsmen category imho.
