Botham and Boucher are getting big nose bleeds at 5 and 6, and Benaud batting after Bedser?

Slot in a David Boon or similar for one of the bowlers perhaps... EDIT: Nufan's thought of the name I was trying to recall - put Barrington in.

BTW, I reckon a bowling line up of Marshall, McGrath, Miller, Murali and McDermott would contain that batting line up - even Bradman would be relatively subdued by that...

And of course, Morris, Mitchell, McCabe et al, will probably find Barnes, Benaud, Botham and Bedser more difficult than the attacks they faced in their careers. Would be a good match.

The H's just need a decent spinner - I count Bhajji as an "S"

I would have Barnes as opener in place of Bannerman who did next to nothing after his century in the first ever Test match.

I would replace Boucher with Bari Wasim - a great wicket keeper probably the greatest from the sub-continent. Unless you disqualify him and put him under W.

Barrington instead of Barlow.

I would go with
  1. Barnes (63.1)
  2. Boycott (47.7)
  3. Bradman (99.9)
  4. Barrington (58.7)
  5. Border (50.6)
  6. Botham (33.6 and 383 wkts at 28.4)
  7. Benaud (24.5 and 248 wkts at 27.0)
  8. Bari /Boucher
  9. Bedser (236 wkts at 24.9)
  10. Bishop (161 wkts at 24.3)/
  11. Bedi (266 at 28.7)
  12. Barnes (189 wkts at 16.4)

Its a great side. You have the option to play Bedi and Benaud plus two pacers and Botham or drop Bedi and chose another pacer (Bishop) depending on conditions.

Okay let me try to get in as many alphabet XI's as I can and then I will put in the rest in a REST side.

I will put 12 players per side (with one extra bowler so that we can cover different conditions) and give the relevant stats.

Suggestions for changes are welcome (with reasons and some stats) and we will change where needed and then lets see if we can have a contest.

Catches include stumpings

Here is the first

The "A' Side
Captain : Warwick Armstrong
Code:
[B]Order	Player Runs	Avg	100's	Wkts	Avg	5 fors	catches[/B]

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
As the thread starter bottled it I thought I’d try Z’s – I have included three ringers to stop it getting more obscure than it is

Zulch
Zavos
Zaremba (top UK employment lawyer and CW celebrity)
Zaheer Abbas
Zesers
Zoehrer +
Zamora (former Brighton and West Ham striker now with Fulham)
Zondeki
Zahid Iqbal
Zulfiqar Ahmed
Zippy (popular kids TV character from the 70’s – stumpski’s avatar this summer)

Bit iffy all round really but with Mr Z as skipper they're ready to take on the world!
