Sorry, yeah, I've seen a fair few caught there off the spinners, I meant more off the pace bowlers.India 2001, first Test, bowler Harbhajan, catcher Ganguly. Actually, it was probably more leg gully than a genuine slip.
Sometimes, it's just to get in the batsman's head more than anything. But if you think about the shots that go in that region, very few are catchable. The keeper has any slight deflection covered, while the fielder is blind to anything else because of the batsman's body. If you were going to put in three leg slips to cover the whole area - which is totally impractical - then you might have a chance at a wicket, but one man has virtually no chance.
Still think it's a good call, because it makes the tickle down the leg side a poor-percentage shot. Despite both Ishant and Zaheer straying past the pads a number of times, the run rate's still very low.But if you think about the shots that go in that region, very few are catchable. Why would they want to? There's still one Test to go and it's such a good batting deck, they'd be hard-pressed to bowl India out again.Haven't read the thread recently but Australia will have to declare early possibly even as many as 100 runs behind to try and force a result in this game imo.
They are 1-0 down and if they can't win this game, they can't win the series. It is fairly acceptable if they do not try to force a victory in the game because of flat deck and India batting fairly well against the Aussie bowling though. (y)Why would they want to? Quite improbable, considering they'd have to move that particular pitch out of the old stadium and into the new stadium plus transfer the curator there too. Besides, the current BCCI chief doesn't have an axe to grind with the BCCI.Yes, especially if Nagpur is the same pitch like 4 years ago.
1-1 would be a victory for this side if they won the 4th, I reckon. See where you're going, though; you're right, they have to win here if they harbour hopes of winning the series. They are 1-0 down and if they can't win this game, they can't win the series. 1-1 would be an Aussie victory for mine too. India need to win the series to claim the BG trophy, Australia getting a draw is mission accomplished for them.1-1 would be a victory for this side if they won the 4th, I reckon. Nah, that would only give India a good chance to win on the last day with their spin prowess, the Australian bowling attack hardly have any bowlers capable of exploiting such conditions, so only thing they should look to do is bat for as long as they can and see where they end up then, but draw is the most realistic result for Australia in this game now.Haven't read the thread recently but Australia will have to declare early possibly even as many as 100 runs behind to try and force a result in this game imo.
Australia are the trophy holders atm, so even if they draw the series they would retain the trophy, and btw why are we even thinking that ahead of the game, Australia still have a lot of work to do in this game to be in a position to be calling the shots. They are 1-0 down and if they can't win this game, they can't win the series. Considering the injuries, inexperience, no spinners and conceding 600+ when 1-0 down, a drawn series would be a brilliant result1-1 would be a victory for this side if they won the 4th, I reckon.
