Bugger me sideways, I'm in Div III.

And that's the end of the match. Beard XI won by 130 runs.
Beard XI 193-10
Moss Side CC 63-10

Oleary destroys the top order, and Gill cleans up the tail for a famous victory. What a season this has been; promoted to III in OD, IV in FC and reaching the final of the CW cup. Madness.

Congratulations!

My opponents are 151/2 after 33 overs -- RR 4.58, RRR 4.29. This is seriously not good. Could be slipping down to OD IV, having been in II last season.

Brooker doing a sterling job of cutting back the run-rate, but yeah, you need a wicket badly. Very finely balanced though; if either of these two go it's right back open...

...and then his penultimate over goes for 13. Ouch.

177/2 with 11 overs left. Only 46 runs required. I'm buggered.

Dude.

That was insane.
Wicket! :)

14 runs in an over! :(

214/3. Chasing 223. Really is all over now...

Four singles. *sigh*

Wicket! That's the guy who's held the innings together.

Hang on...hang on...

End of over 45: 218/4

single...W...dot...W...dot...W

End of over 46: 219/7

W...dot...W...dot...W

End of over 47: 219/10

WITHINGTON WONDERERS WIN BY FOUR RUNS.

FOUR RUNS!

I feel really very sorry for my opponent -- that's exactly the sort of thing that hacked Scaly off with BT.

Yeah, I'd be spitting nails if I were him. Seven wickets down for one run? Ouch. You can't say it was an unfair result ratings-wise, I suppose, but still.

Anyway, all's well that ends well, congrats for saving the day. :) Now to hope the crazy luck carries over to the job app I'm supposed to be writing. And then beer o'clock. Adios!

I've sent my condolences by BT-mail. Seemed the decent thing.

Beer!

But first, I'm heading over to Manchester Velodrome to try my hand (or rather, my legs) at track cycling. Arranged a taster session for some workmates and friends. Lycra is optional, thankfully.

Congrats. Wonder if we'll be in the same III division...
I'll be in III.11, and according to the guy on sledging who worked out the promotions for IV to III, you're going to be in III.7:

23 Connells Estates CC IV.8 replace 7 Monkeyboys CC iii.7
He may have got it wrong, but no-one's corrected him yet. No CW rivalry next year then, probably.

Entirely chuffed to have made it to Div III; thought I may have had the newest team in England at that level, but I just found a team three months younger that autopromoted. Grr. :)

Trevor Vayro's Cymru Gurgitators are in Div III.7, so there will be some kind of CricketWeb rivalry if that's the division I'm in...

Interesting!

Fairly ordinary bowling effort against CD so far. Need a better 5th bowler too. Garrick as threatening as a flower.

End of Over 28: 142-0, runrate=5.07
Garrick 4-0-37-0
Dylan* 81 (88 balls)
Keane 45 (82 balls)

No pops here, but the dilemma in regards to my trainees continue. Not sure whether or not to stop training on Mills. Actually, it'll probably be decided by whether or not I pull a decent YP in the first 4 weeks of next season. But that creates it's own dilemma - try for a bowler, since my 5th one sucks, or an all-rounder since my batting is that great either? Sigh.

Have been toying with the idea to give pullers some nets again, to strengthen his secondaries, and possibly his bowling to superb. He'll be 24 next season though, not sure if it's worth it.

Wahid Weerappuli - 23 yo, BT Rating=22,836

Any help appreciated.

And I know, all my trainees need better stamina. Will be looking to rectify that later in the coming season or the season after.

Wouldn't bother with Weerappulli's primaries unless you're planning to sell him and he's close to a pop; might be worth a fielding net but only if there's no better use for it. Certainly don't stop training Mills - keep him on one bowling for at least another season or two.

I'd honestly get stamina up as soon as possible if I were you. It's made an absolutely massive difference to my team; I reckon it's the main factor in my improvement over the last two seasons. F'rinstance I'd switch Gleeson's fielding to a stam right away, same for Mills and maybe stick Knowles's second primary nets to stam when he ages (unless you're planning on keeping his double primary net for another season). Dhindsa's field could probably stand moving to stam for a bit, too. Players with the primaries yours have ought to be absolutely smashing up div IV, and I'd bet on stamina making the difference. You'll see a far more immediate effect than you will from a new trainee, that's for sure.

Hard to know with trainees - it's such a crap-shoot anyway it's almost impossible to plan. I tend to just try for bowlers, because you're more likely to get a half-decent one than you are an all-rounder, and because they fetch more than batsmen on the TM. That said, I've only ever managed to pull one trainee worth the effort, so my strategies may not be worth listening to. :-)
