Yeah much rather the AFL system, a lot easier to follow.
AWTAShould just have the bloody AFL finals system.
No, you read it as singular, when it was plural. My point was that you didn't explain which winner played which of the two highest ranked winners.
Nah, should be a Quarter Final knock out. Like in the tennis.Should just have the bloody AFL finals system.
Hmm actually my system doesn't work because if the Storm won then the Roosters would be playing the Broncos again.
Oh well.
I had an hour long debate on it with a mate about, and just as well I didn't go looking at this thread for infoIt does
Thanks very muchHmm I'll have a crack.
First week:
1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5
All of the top 4 get home games. The two lowest losers are completely eliminated, and the two highest winners get a week off. In this case, the Dragons (7th) and the Raiders (6th) are eliminated as the two lowest losers, and the Sea Eagles (2nd) and the Sharks (3rd) get the week off.
Second week:
Highest Winner(Broncos) vs. Highest Loser(Storm) [Game 1]
Lowest Winner(Warriors) vs. Lowest Loser(Roosters) [Game 2]
The two winners get home games whereas the two losers play away from home. This obviously excludes the two highest winners.
Third Week
Highest Winner from Week One vs. Winner of Game 2 from the Week Two
Other Winner from Week One vs. Winner of Game 1 from the Week Two
Both the teams who had the week off now get home games. With the Storm losing today it means they won't play another game in Melbourne this season. As Tharmi has previously mentioned, all games are either at SFS or ANZ if they're Sydney clubs.
Fourth Week
Grand Final @ ANZ
Hopefully that's right (and helps).
Think you're wrong there. In that case Brisbane v Manly and St George v RoostersOk, we have the top 8 finish the same, Manly, Sydney and Canberra lose.
Melbourne and Cronulla finish 1 & 3 and there fore have a week off. Canberra and New Zealand are eliminated because they were the two lowest teams. So that gives us Manly, Sydney, Brisbane and St George that are through.
So therefore Manly v Sydney and Brisbane v St George then?
Come the Prelim finals it would be Melbourne v Manly/Sydney and Cronulla v Brisbane/St George. And obv. who the winners of the prelim finals would make it to the GF.
Is my calculations correct or am I wrong?
Yes, the benefit of the AFL system is that a clear pathway is there for all teams when they take the field in the first week - their fate is in their own hands and is not subject to extraneous factors. On the other hand, I guess the drawback with the AFL system is that largely teams 1-4 are placed on an equal footing (but for the home ground advantage) once the finals commence. This is not the case under McIntyre. On balance though, I think the AFL system is preferable.Well done to the Warriors for producing the biggest finals upset since the 2 qualifying finals in 05, and probably ever since the top 8 came in.
Their great effort will probably paper over the cracks of the ridiculous finals system though. In all honesty, I really think you need a system where the teams in the first week of the finals all know precisely what's at stake before they take the field. Teams 3, 4, 5, 6 don't in the current system, and that stinks.
AFL system for mine would be a lot better.
