Cricket Web Colts vs Cricket Web Green
OD - Chef de Groot Trophy - Fardin Qayyumi
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Cricket Web Colts made an encouraging start to the one-day season behind an impressively cool innings by Daniel Towns. The former opening batsman adjusted well to his move to down the order with 91 not out to guide Colts to a target of 210.
Cricket Web Green were asked to bat first by Kyle Wright under grey skies and with a wet outfield. The early movement offered was welcomed by the new look Colts attack, but despite applying themselves well, the seamers were unable to initiate a breakthrough. Ben Read and Nick Scott grew in confidence and tallied 89 between them when debutant Andy Pimpkins struck with his second ball. As Read looked to turn a short ball to fine leg, he only managed to nick it behind to Fjermestad. The wicket in the 21st over slowed the momentum somewhat, but Scott still advanced coolly to his half-century.
At 154-1 there seemed a platform for a huge total, but Pimpkins had other ideas. The young fast bowler operated with good accuracy and bounce, and enticed Scott to an ill-advised hook shot. He was out for 66 and quickly followed to the pavilion by Martyn Corrin, caught low at mid-on for 5. The middle order crumbled to the newly-energized Colts seamers, and when Malone was trapped lbw by Ryan Dunn, CW Green effectively missed any chance of a big score. Pimpkins finished with 4-46, while Dunn returned his best figures in an age with 3-31. CW Green were all out for 209 with 29 balls left of their 50.
What might have been a cakewalk for Colts was anything but. The Green opening bowlers unsettled the top order and removed the top 3 within 8 overs. Chris Butler and Towns then crept along in recovery, but when the former was well-caught by McNamara at midwicket, it was game on once again. However, what pressure there was faded with the introduction of spin and Colts eased back into contention with their masterful manipulation of the slower bowlers. A 56-run stand was ended by Corrin as Fjermestad swiped at Corrin to be bowled for 29 and Pimpkins entered the frame for his first Dev League innings. Having already succeeded with the ball, he had few problems in doing so with the bat. Nothing the Greens posed threatened the young man, and with Towns for support and guidance, he reeled off some scorching shots. Pimpkins was particularly impressive as Colts closed in on the target, first lofting Rose down the ground for six, then ending the game with an enormous blow off McNamara that sailed over midwicket.

Cricket Web Blue vs Cricket Web Black
OD - Chef de Groot Trophy - PDV Dome
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Recovered from embarrassment at Casston Reserve, Cricket Web Blue fought Cricket Web Black in a high scoring fixture at PDV Dome. A total of 609 runs were scored in just short of 100 overs, as the Blues ran out of steam and succumbed to the Blacks by 25 runs.
Despite the abundance of runs, there was joy for the bowlers and both attack fought back into contention after poor starts with the ball. James Stedman and Ash Chaulk faced up to the celebrated pairing of Camps and Sriram, but rose to the occasion so commandingly that stand-in Blue captain Sean Fuller delayed the final powerplay to try to contain the damage. The Blues had to wait until the 28th over for their first success, when Fuller enticed Stedman (64) to a loose cut shot and he was caught by Pete Young behind point.
Andrew Cloete was a very handy replacement and runs continued to flow against all comers. Ash Chaulk slashed Sriram over backward point to raise his hundred, having faced just 81 balls, then slowed his pace before he was stumped playing a tired swipe against the spin of Sam Morris. With wickets in hand CW Black tried to accelerate but instead collapsed as the premier Blue bowlers returned with some passion. Cloete marched on to a quickfire 65, then offered a thick edge to Crampton behind the stumps. From the final 10 overs CW Black scored 71 runs and lost 7 wickets, while the previously expensive Gee Sriram rallied to take 4 for 8 from his last 2 overs.
The Blacks posted 317-9 and CW Blue set out aggressively in the chase of the large total. Runs flowed at greater than 7 per over in the early running. That momentum was briefly interrupted then by big Kev Gough and two quick blows. First Camps edged a beauty to the wicketkeeper, then de Silva flashed at a fuller ball to be caught at slip. The experienced pairing of Pete Young and Sean Fuller united and got things back on course. It was not until Dan Smith took the ball himself that the startling momentum slowed. Smith varied his pace well and offered a steady spell from one end while his major bowlers tried to right themselves at the other.
The required run rate climbed over 6.5 at the fall of Pete Young, bowled comprehensively for 49 by former teammate Nath Patrick. Alex Crampton replaced him and promised much when he slogged Smith over midwicket for six, but he too was out to Patrick, caught behind an over later. Enter debutant Sam Morris for a brace of boundaries. The young man raced to double figures within an over and then played around a full delivery from Smith. He was furious with himself as he walked off for 15 from 7 balls at the end of the 32nd over. The requirement had slowed to just over 6 per over, but surged upward once more with the new man Stephen Young struggling to fire straight away.
CW Black sensed their opportunity and tightened the screws even against Fuller, already established at the crease, before dismissing him to a miscued slog. Zac Gelman took a good catch at long-off and pumped his fist to acknowledge the importance of the wicket. New man Popat hit Pickup for six over long-on and then four to backward point, but he got carried away and picked out Donald in the deep. The weak Blue tail was exposed and despite a couple of hearty blows, they could not match the spiraling requirement. Patrick and Gough claimed a wicket each to wrap the innings, finishing with 3 wickets apiece.
Cricket Web Black Innings 317-9 (50 overs)
AP Chaulk 129, AP Cloete 65, JE Stedman 64
G Sriram 4-63, AEK Maina 2-47
Cricket Web Blue Innings 292 all out (49.3 overs)

Cricket Web Red vs Masters XI
OD - Chef de Groot Trophy - CW Oval
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
The CW Oval continued to assist bowlers and enabled a convincing win for Cricket Web Red as their bowling attack fired for the first time truly this season. Kingsley Clapham realized his potential for the first time in his career with a maiden 5-wicket haul that was central to the dismantling of Masters XI for 182. The tourists needed just 234 to win, but never looked likely after the Red seamers acquitted themselves outstandingly.
The Reds took first strike after heavy showers set up a waterlogged outfield. Brian Lara's confident decision paid immediate dividends with the wicket of Matt Luff falling to Shane Bond in the first over. The New Zealand pacer then removed the troubled Jamee Gray, caught at second slip for 13, and CW Red floundered at 22-2. Aseem Sharma took guard for his first innings of the season, having joined the squad a month late. But he hardly looked to have missed a beat and together with Rob Dauth, the Reds began to push into control with some bold shots.
Sharma swept Chandana for a run to reach 50, but 3 balls later and with the third wicket stand at 120, he sliced a drive to the covers. Shane Warne celebrated and then disaster accounted for new man Kearsley. He was run out without a run and having faced just 2 balls. Warne capped a spectacular over with a big leg break that drew Mørk forward and edging to the lone slip. The triple-wicket maiden rocked the Reds and left them struggling after the pleasant beginning. Still Rob Daught was not affected. He hit the next two balls he faced for boundaries and accelerated to a hundred off 120 balls. The brilliant innings was duly acknowledged by a standing ovation.
Just as the Reds seemed to be ready for a final assault, they were undone by another collapse. After Bennett played around a Klusener delivery, Dauth was run out for 102 and the slide was on. Clapham had started like a flaming train, but slowed amidst the carnage and was last out in the final over. Bond wrapped with 4 for 38 from his 10 overs.
The Masters XI clearly fancied themselves to chase the moderate total, given the breezy manner that Luke Ronchi started against Muhammad Amir. He fairly raced to 6 off 7 balls, then chipped a simple catch to Sharma at extra cover. Imran Farhat and Brian Lara steadied the ship briefly, then Clapham was called to action and dismissed the former with a wide full toss. Somehow Farhat managed to pick out Kennett at mid-off when he tried to dispatch the loosener. Clapham fired out Benkenstein for 6 and CW Red surged into control. By the time Brian Lara dragged a Bennett legbreak onto his stumps, there was dancing in the stands.
Through Justin Kemp and Thomas Odoyo there was a threatening recovery, but Clapham returned to cut that short with another trade mark inswinger. Young West snapped up Lance Klusener cheaply to secure the result.
