Sehwag, an all-time Indian great?

Jeevan didn't say that.
I know he didn't but those figures comparing 'consistency levels' have no meaning unless we are saying that a comparison with Dravid proves things one way or the other.

So Dravid's level of consistency is the 'bare minimum' accceptable from a Test cricketer, anyone who falls below that is inconsistent ?

Want me to list the cricketers who will fail that criteria of yours ?
Actually quite the opposite was the intent. I compared him with Dravid because
I expect Dravid to be at or near the top of any table of consistency for Indian batsmen,
ie almost all others would probably fall below it.

And the surprising thing was not that Sehwag 'fell below' in the frequency of 50-99 scores,
but that this would probably be an issue once in 14 innings (IOW yes, Sehwag is incosistent when compared with a gold standard,
but not in an extremely glaring manner that it completely outweighs his positives - which are very
outstanding in comparison to his "inconsistency' weakness).

I would definately rate sehwag as he is the second best opening batsman iin indian test cricket history in 70 years after Sunil Gavaskar he may be lucky and got runs on flat tracks but thats not his fault the truth is he is brave enough to take the atack to the opposition and have brought revolutionary change in approach of an opening batsman

He has got 5 Double handreds and can handle any bowler when others struggle .

The truth is he is a much bigger ''match winner /saver '' than those ''greats :)
Really Funnygirl ? Has he really won/saved more games for India Than those 'Greats' like Tendulkar, Dravid ?

How easy it is to jump on the Bandwagon ?

A very good point made there regarding Sehwag's true class being tested only in the absence of the Fab 4, heck, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Simply the fact that being the most senior pro in the team alongwith the fact that he is the opener will really test his approach, mental makeup to the game.

thats not a good point as Tendulkar and Dravid have played in the company of some good batsmen ranging from Azharudin to Laxman. Gavaskar had Vishwanath and Amarnath .... when Sehwag performs in the absence of these four and with an inexperienced line up, it will be a different challenge to what most have faced!!!

Saw it on cricinfo so posting the link here, btw is cricinfo reading the forums here or what ?

This is not the first time they have taken the lead from us for an article. The give away is the fact that they do it within days of us.

Its a compliment to us but doesn't speak much of their own articles team.
Was just about to bump with the cricinfo link. WTF you ****s, how pathetic are you?
And it is completely out of the realm of possibility that the article came out because Sehwag had a career defining knock and not because of this thread?

We have threads and discussion on virtually every topic, so it's only natural that when a site like cricinfo does a feature, a forum like us would have already discussed it.

Even when Azhar was around, Tendulkar started taking up responsibility. If my memory serves right, from 1994 onwards (ever since NZ tour), Sachin's been seen as a vital cog in the batting lineup. And lol, when did Laxman join the party? Only in 2001! I remember the period 1996-2000 was almost Sachin chal gaya, match khatam ho gaya (Sachin has gone, match is over), a million television sets switched off the moment Sachin was out. That was the pressure he was under.

let's take your above statement at face-value .... you are taking an exception and making it as a representative of the whole group .... but thats not the point as with Azhar around, Sachin was NOT the senior most pro in the side so your saying that even with Azhar around, Sachin started taking responsibility = even with some of the seniors around, Sehwag started taking responsibility which contradicts your original point below

so from whichever angle you take your point, it doesn't go :)

Agewise he might be not. But experience -wsie he was. How otherwise can you explain him being made the captain of the team at just 21 years of age? That means the confidence placed in him and the leadership he was expected to assume from such an early age onwards.

Sehwag while going ballistic, always have the comfort factor that the Fab 4 are still in the lurch. That always adds CONFIDENCE to the batting approach. Once the fab 4 goes, let's see how Sehwag adapts to the new role, as he will be required to provide leadership to the batting lineup. A quick 30 ball 30 which today might have gone unnoticed thanks to say a 170 ball 100 by Dravid or 150 ball 100 by Tendulkar, would not happen then. And all these failures will start to stand out significantly (like how Sachin's single tour failure and critics calling for his retirement).

it's taken that we are not talking abt the age .... and the other scenario of Tendulkar, an exception has also been considered so don't see the reason why you have to expand on it

when you say that 'Fab 4', it implies that they too enjoy the same comfort levels as Sehwag does!!!! So if Dravid is batting, he still has the others in the 'lurch'

really don't see any point in your taking Sehwag as one group and the other 4 four as other group when each one of the five enjoy the same comfort level with the other 4 around!!!!

Huh? I'm comparing Tendulkar and Sehwag. Fab 4 I think is a media hype. Ganguly and Laxman are always a rung lower than Dravid and Tendulkar.
