Yes. I watched the IPL in parts with an open mind, being an Indian supporter, but the IPL final was no match for the English finals day.

On reflection, I cant think of a more enjoyable day of cricket I have seen as a neutral. And that includes all formats :-O (though doesnt compare with England Test cricket or Yorkshire winning anything).

It's insidious is 20/20 - I personally hate it but I still managed to watch it all day and thoroughly enjoy it

But I would have preferred to watch a day of a Roses match with Lanky racing to 220-5 in 100 overs - at least I hope I would

I know what you mean, I've warmed to it this year - it's taken five years though. I wasn't anything like as gutted to see Kent lose as I would've been with Surrey though, so I know where my loyalties still lie. :)

What a game... I can't see how you can dislike Twenty20 when drama like that is on show, you have to just be stubbornly objecting to it on some traditionalist principle if you can't let your jaw drop to that. Sublime cricket all day long.
Still absolutely despise it. If I want a party I'll go to a sodding party, and if I want to see baseball I'll go to the ballgame.. Wait until there is no test cricket for you to watch and see if any of you start changing your tunes.. Didn't watch one ball and don't think I missed much..

There, at least I didn't infect this thread on the actual day :)

Can't be bothered to start a new thread really but England U19 going alright against the Kiwis. 512-8 declared with Redfern and Smith hitting 150's and Dawson a 100, NZ 116-5 with Woakes 3-17 and Saxelby 2-20.

Both sides i assume in rebuilding mode after the WC so should be younger sides as well

EDIT actually looks like the England squad isn't that young, just some of the better players from the WC have moved on.

Huge game this Wednesday, Nottinghamshire v Durham @ Trent Bridge. I have to say that whoever wins that should go on to win the County Championship.

Who are everybody elses tips for the Championship and Pro40 leagues now?

Ha. Wow. Super knock from Bopara on Sky in the Pro40. Made his 100 off 54 balls. Hit 4 consecutive sixes off Wagg. Poor old Derbyshire...

Hmmm, just started watching - unfortunately. Essex seem to have been on Sky a lot this season, but this was one performance I really wish I'd caught.

This isn't at Derby is it? Are we going to get a 40 minute 'sunset break?'

They've erected a canvas board on a crane to block out the sun.

Fantastic knock from Bopara, and a superbly paced opening knock from Gallian as well - 108* from 102, which will undoubtedly be overshadowed by Bopara.

Anyone who's hopeful of opening for England could do worse than tune in to Gallian or Tresco's knocks over the last week.

I understand his stats are shocking, but this Chris Wright looks impressive.

EDIT: Got a very sharp bouncer too!

As you say he has had an awful start to his career really, but the potential is there. It's just too raw, and you have to wonder whether he will ever fulfill it. He's done some good things at Essex this year but he's been very inconsistent.

Fair effort from Derbyshire, was fully expecting them to lose by quite a lot. Lower order let them down

Saw him about 3-4 years ago, looked like one of the worst county bowlers of recent times. Along with Gareth Andrews, Chris Whelans and Mark Turners, how he got a contract with a second county is beyond me.

Even the worst bowlers might have the odd decent game though.

BTW, seems like at last Palladino and Phillips are fit again. Bloody hell Essex have a lot of bowlers, and quite a few decent ones too.

Masters, Tudor, Danish(\Nel), Palladino, Middlebrook, Napier. Then the lesser lights like Wright, Chambers, Westfield, Phillips and Jahid Ahmed. Plus Bopara, ten Doeschate and, in OD cricket, Grant Flower to offer some part-time stuff.

The bowling attacks on show today, with one or two exceptions, were absolute jokes. Top of the pile were Wagg and Clare, who seemed unable to understand why Bopara was smashing them out of the ground ball after ball when they were bowling length. It finally clicked for Wagg - he went for a waste high full toss instead. Which also went the distance.

Bopara a class above.
