Peate was "dismissed" from his professional contract by Lord Hawke but that cant be the answer 'cos that was a couple of years later

By deliberately knocking his wicket down after the ball had been taken by the keeper
I didn't know that, though - that's interesting. I looked for a report in Wisden for more details but the match report is a very perfunctory two paragraphs, unlike the full page report on the Oval Test later that series.

Its a different incident where Peate was given out when batting - there was a long delay while the umpires decided if it was out - it was mentioned in Gerald Brodribb's Next Man In so, not unusually, I was wrong

Well, I suppose I ought to do a question in a similar sort of vein!

Incidentally, Zaremba, drop me an e-mail at wisden18@gmail.com would send you a PM but can't seem to on this forum.

Very simple (!), for the answer I'd like a number and an explanation:

A ball is delivered, and the umpires calls No Ball, the striker hits the ball (with his bat) and it goes straight up into the air, and is falling down towards his wicket. He hits the ball a second time, with his bat, to stop the ball from hitting his wicket. The ball flies off to third man, where the fielder throws the ball back to the keeper. The batsmen have started to run, but have not crossed when the fielder throws the ball. The throw goes wide of the keeper, and heads off towards long on. The batsmen have completed two runs and have crossed on the third when the fielder at long on fields the ball. His throw is poor as well, and before the batsmen have completed their third run the ball crosses the boundary.

How many runs are scored, and why?

Well you can only get overthrows from a ball lawfully, as here, hit twice, so thats 4 for the boundary and 1 of the others so I'll try 5 plus one for the no ball thats 6
