Gah. Always found it amazing when people would turn their back on representing their state and country to do something extremely different.

Gasnier has not closed the door on a return to rugby league but for now he sees the opportunity of playing in France as an easier prospect to living in Australia.

It is understood the Dragons captain has become frustrated by what he sees as the fishbowl existence in Sydney.
Wonder if this is any worse than it was when he turned down an offer from rugby union a few years back.

It's funny how Gasnier complains about the 'fishbowl existence' in Sydney but draws a lot of attention to himself by drawing out speculation on his future for a number of months. **** it must be tough being a footballer and earning hundreds of thousands of dollars doing what you love, and then being able to go overseas and earn hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it somewhere else.

If you don't like the attention, become a checkout chick. And stay off the phone.

Big fat dollar sign hey

He’s got a new fire

Burnin’ in his eyes

Can hear the cash register

ker ching ker ching ker ching

he’s all fired up

he’s lived and learned

just wants to earn

just wants to text en francais

base-moi allumez

base-moi allumez

Must be a slow day in chambers.

Awta. Final is at Suncorp Stadium too. Will ark up for sure.
No doubt we'll be beaten then.

I mean, Qld might win the Origin, but when push comes to shove at international level, you need the guiding hand of a majority NSW side to seize the initiative.

You pick Qlders for the donkey work because they're thick and feel no pain, but for creative stuff and organisation, always back NSW - hence Lewis being rightfully dropped for Kenny on the 82 Roo tour.

Therefore, Brett Finch for half and Anasta for 5/8 with the creative genius of Craig Flopsgibbon forming a devastating scrum base combination. The thoroughly non-tackling and completely uninvolved and overrated Brett Stuart for full back and "ticker on legs" Brett Kite for front row.

God it's been a long day.

Yeah, give it a rest for the rest of the day. Wasting valuable forum space. :p

TBF if you were offered that sort of money you would take it. If a company was offering you much better money to do what you are doing or something slightly different, you would take it. Mind you I wouldn''t pass it up the chance to live in France, as frustrating as it can be, I love the place to bits.

Love France also. But, given The Dragons are yet to win a premiership and Gasnier hasn't achieved all that he could in State of Origin (possible captain next year) and probably hasn't played that many World Cups, still a bit left for him in Australia to do. It's not like he was on $20000 a year.

Don't why it surprises anyone that Gas left, talk is if the Tahs offerred him more money last time he would have left in a heartbeat. Like a lot of top players in the NRL, he always seem to be happy with the level he achieved in the game. Since he was rated a couple seasons back as one of best centres in game. He just seemed to go through the motions and never improved his game to another level. Ganted injuries hadn't helped. But he lost the drive to get further a long time ago. Reckon he achieved what he wanted in the NRL.

Morgieb, you should know that alot of players presently in the nrl have their core background in union, (Daniel Con from the Titans for one, played against him as a 15 year old and even managed to tackle him once, we were down 50-nil at halftime)

Feel gas has done all he can really, no premiership but he wasnt going to get one with the dragons anyway. Liked John O'neils comment when asked if gas would be drafted into he wallabies squad "No"

Round 18 results.

We're gash, the lot of us. The Storm getting up adds a hardly-deserved sheen of respectability to some rank pish tipping.

altoz 4
Simon 4
Burgey 4
99* 4
chaminda 4
Brumby 3

Burgey's 4 points are enough to secure him outright first, relegating the people's champion () to second place. Kyle rounds out the medal postions, with 99* & the artist formerly known as Broncoman propping things up.

EDIT:

Ooops. Fixtures:

Sea Eagles vs Eels
Cowboys vs Broncos
Titans vs Panthers
Sharks vs Knights
Bulldogs vs Warriors
Raiders vs Roosters
Rabbitohs vs Tigers
Storm vs Dragons

With respect, you can't really compare normal salary and wage earners like us, with the likes of Gasnier. Obviously, with the salary most of us are on, if someone offered to double it, we would likely leave our current job. However, our current salaries are nowhere near likely to set us up for life.

By contrast, Gas was already on $500 000/year, and thus (at just 26 years of age) he was well on his way to never having to work again. Particularly given that his current contract expires when he is just 29 years of age, thus giving him another five years to play overseas and earn the big bucks anyway.

I would have thought the oppotunity to play in the best competition, play Origin, probably be the next captain of Australia, have a shot at a premiership, and therefore (with the above) achieve enormous professional satisfaction, would have been enough to keep Gas here - and then after that, at just 29 years of age, go overseas for the big pay day.

Gasnier is a good player, we all know that, however am I the only one who thinks his last name has been getting him an extra 100k per year? He has never done anything outstanding when it counts to jusitfy being one of the top players in the game.
