Which Football (Soccer) team do you support?

Started supporting Arsenal in 1994, simply because my best friend at school supported them, and I knew very little about the sport in general at the time. Just kind of stuck really, and been to several matches since, so imo thats fair enough, I wouldnt call myself a glory supporter.

Should've picked a better team then.
I would've done but, y'know, I didn't really "pick" it. As said earlier - those who simply pick a team and think "right, I'm supporting them" are the most contemptible of all "fans". For me, as long as fanship has been ingrained (ideally from an early age - certainly from the time you first became aware of the existence of the sport) and cannot be explained as "selection", merely "it's always the way it's been", that's genuine IMO.

Follow Celtic, for a similar reason to DCYE, had an aunt who went out with a Scottish bloke, and he got me into football.

Also follow Bristol Rovers in League 1 in England, but thats because i randomly picked them in FM and turned them into a great side, and so feel a minor attachment to them.:p

Well I have been to two Inter games one in Italy and Spain, so it is not as though I have never been to a match. Although I have never proclaimed myself to be a massive fan in the like of that guy who guys to every single Portsmouth game (you see him everytime they are televised).

If you can line me up a job in Milan I would be there to every game in a heartbeat. Also I can lay claim to knowing a bit of Italian (more then just the hello goodbye bit) so it does it for me.

It's what i did. Happen to live in a gaping 30mile hole of football league clubs and wasn't really feeling the Coventry love. Basically picked a team at more or less random (as it could've turned out to be anyone) when i was 7 and stuck with them ever since. Live 90minutes from Mansfield, with no real easy/cheap way of getting there, still manage to get to a few games, will be easier if anything now we're relegated.

Picking's fine, picking craply isn't fine.

Mate of mine, in the summer of 2001, he told me and another mate of a dream he had had. Previously, he had always been a Newcastle fan as his Dad is from there. Well anyway, this dream was that in 2007 Mansfield would win the Champions League. He decided to start supporting them then, as he did not want to be accused of being a glory hunter when it happened.

DOn't see him much these days, don't think he's really into footy anymore. Wonder if he still supports them.

Obviously comments arn't applicable to those who don't live in the country.

Just out of curiosity why do you follow Man Utd?
Oki doki. David Beckham. My favourite English player and so when I started watching Englsih football I followed his team despite them having booted him out in the summer. Had no idea how good or how bad Man Utd were TBH.

Fail to believe that tbh, there's people in Chad who know exactly how good Man Utd are.

Well obviously knew they were a big club. And you're assuming I followed any form of football except international.

I think that is common with a lot of people follow a team for one particular player then when that player leaves just continue supporting team.

You might even get to see David Beckham play in the shortly as I think FIFA want England to play a match in Jamaca.

TBF, the summer he says he started supporting them was the summer they signed Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba. Not their finest. And their first of three years without a Prem title, the only time they have gone more than on year since its inception I think.

Whatever happened to him? Last I heard he was in Saudi Arabia.
Faffed around for a few seasons going all over the place, Qatar, Japan, Argentina, Costa Rica and finished up in America and then decided to call it a day. Going in to coaching apparently so hopefully he'll be back in the premiership one day 'cause he wants to do it in England.

Not like they didn't make the Champions League or anything, hardly a dire patch.

You know me Mitchell, I think everyone should support teams that Greenacre has played for (by my reckoning that makes me, you and Smith safe, I do recall there being a Stoke fan round these parts once but not sure). He'd already chosen to support them, just saying he didn't exactly choose the best time to do so.
