For me the big surprise (and concern) is JUST TEN votes for Pakistan. Why ? Are we losing our Pakistani friends ?
We've never really had that many, though. There's 10 (1 which can be discounted) so far, and as I say I reckon there's potentially another 7.

All Rounder, Yawer AKA Beleg, FRAZ, Fusion, gunner, haroon510, shortpitched713, slowfinger, Unattainableguy, Xuhaib, Shoaib Ahmed AKA BhupinderSingh, godofcricket, Bouncer, no1_gangsta_786, funnygirl and Engle.

Of these: slowfinger is not actually a Pakistan fan, just someone messing around, so forget that; and I'm still not absolutely sure whether Engle is or isn't a Pakistani fan.

The only regular posters are FRAZ, Yawer, Fusion, np10, sp713, haroon and Xuhaib, and even they have much smaller counts than any of the "really big" posters.

Uag, Shoaib and funnygirl are much less regular contributors, and the likes of Bouncer, no1_g, godofcricket and gunner only turn-up every now and then. I've never even seen this "All Rounder" guy post.

Pakistan contribution on this forum has always been sadly fairly irregular.

Among developed countries, England seems to be underrepresented.
TBH, that's more to do with the tardiness of voters from over here. There's still loads potentially to come.

We do fall fairly comfortably in the shadow of Australia in that respect, though, and despite the fact that cricket following is considerably higher here than in New Zealand, on CW UK-ers only just outnumber Kiwis. That is explained by Kev in the very first post of this thread - this site is of NZ origin, and there's always been a hell of a lot of Kiwi representation on it.

SA still massively under-represented, but a great improvement from the days when I was literally the only fan on the entire forum..

Haha yep, only recently-ish that that time finished. Even now most of the rest of the SA fans apart from you post irregularly - only Joanna and, recently, Nicole who post much at all.

The other thing I always find remarkable about SA CW fandom is the fact that the female percentage is enormously higher than elsewhere - there's Joanna, Nicole and Corli, compared to my namesake, Rodders and Marius (the latter of whom has just 100-odd posts in over 3 years in any case). SA-Eddie and Andrew Pollock, the only others to vote so far, are both recent additions and pretty much never post to date, and I'd normally presume "nexxus" was a guy but haven't seen anything to suggest either way, and hitherto evidence suggests it'd be wise not to presume where SAfricans are concerned. :)

Are there just more girls who follow cricket in SA, or simply more that use online forums?

Very interesting that NZ/ENG/AUS have an almost 2:1 numerical advantage over the subcontinent fans. I would not have guessed that. On this site, the English fans tend to be the best, in terms of post quality.
I think it's more a fact that less idiots seem to come from England, as they are busy trolling football forums. Get a few but more trolls seem to come from Australia, India etc.

Then again the all-time #1 troll, SW/BLE, IIRC he was actually posting from England

Haha, the Camel56 types were actually even worse than SW\BLE. They were before your time, though.

They were all Australian, incidentally.

And honestly, it does seem that the idiots in Australia tend to come on CW more than the idiots elsewhere: bond21 is another absolutely classic case of this recently. Mind, most of the worst stuff tends to come in tour-threads, and obviously I'll only notice that if it's an England tour-thread. And there's hardly any Lankans, trolls or otherwise, and we haven't had any Kiwi idiots in the last few months, so all was grand there.

Incidentally, a lot of would-be CW trolls from Australia are busy posting in Australian Football League forums (a sport which I haven't taken much interest in for over 3 years). I would like to think that the 'Australian troll quotient' is more coincidental than a statistic from which inferences can be made about the rest of us.

And indeed rugby league forums. Don't under-estimate the poorness of the quality of the members of those. Witness the Ponting/Bradman thread I started...

Oh, of course. Some of the posts made by rugby league fans are even more asinine, if anything.

More girls in SA follow and play cricket tbh.. If you go to a game, especially Pro20, it's about a 50/50 male female split.. Most of them are drinking or have been dragged by their boyfriends, but it's much more of a social activity..

Good move IMO, I was actually going to suggest it after the out-of-date tour threads had been taken down... but I've been pre-empted. :)

Frankly, I think its just more information to add to his information database. It adds a bit more value when he considers selling it off to the highest bidder if they are able to conduct targetted marketing; such as sending you adverts pertaining to the team you support.

And no, I'm not cynical/paranoid.

As long as Pakistani cricket board is going to keep on losing series to some bullying boards ,Pakistani cricket team will keep on losing fan following .
Pakistan's beauty was the real fast bowlers which they don't really have any more and also senior team members are ****ing harsh at the youngsters and this guy Inzamam has laid the foundation of sickness inside the team .
The whole selection committee is impotent and their results are right in front of every one . Fitness is a real big issue and also how the name of **** that guy Hair was let back in the international umpiring by ICC. PCB is impotent plain and simple ...........

I have always supported Pakistan as my second favourite team (after India) but have been very frustrated by whats been happening in Pakistani cricket on and off the field off late. Its the first time in decades that I am not following Pakistani matches.

As a rule I support the weaker team in any match between the other teams the exceptions have been West Indies (in recent years) for reasons similar to Pakistan above and Bangladesh for their oafishness in not trying to learn from their interaction with the bigger teams and players/unlearn all the bad habits picked up from limited overs cricket and their poor domestic cricket.

Their best batsmen bat as if its perpetually the last ball of the match or as if they are here to teach Viv Richards what flamboyance is all about.

If I do have to pick my two favourite teams other than India and Pakistan, I would pick South Africa and Newzealand

But if there is one team whose matches I dont miss other than India, it is Australia. I love watching quality cricket and Australia still provides most of it.

I was torn between Bangladesh and New Zealand, considering I support both of them very strongly. I do actively discuss and follow New Zealand cricket more, domestic stuff included, but I always support Bangladesh at Test/ODI level even against New Zealand, much to the annoyance of some of my Kiwi companions.
