Crud, how we couldn't chase 245 after being 1/96 is beyond me.

Well bowled G. Couple decent innings, but not enough. Personally happy with my econ rate.

Yeah Reds, you're dire.

Why did Reddy end up batting at number 10 btw?
I missed him out of the middle order accidentally, but he was due to come in if one of Corrin or Dubb-Lynch got out.

Let's just say he stubbed his thumb while fielding.

Liam, sent you a quick email. Mind having a read and replying before I name a team? (within next 30 mins if possible heh)

The bowlers were economical. But didn't defend. Can't blame the bowlers in this instance.
One wicket = Not good enough, even given the situation.

I'm not blaming the bowlers for the loss, but I am saying that the bowlers were terrible. They weren't so much economical as the Masters batsmen were taking it slow. We still should get more than one wicket in 40 overs.

Indeed. Forty overs for only one wicket, when we had to get poles to win the game? We were never going to defend it by starving them of runs, on a good deck.

EDIT: In saying that, I don't think that it's time for wholesale changes or anything, esp. with regards to the bowling.

Cricket Web Red v Masters XI
CW Oval

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Cricket Web Red discovered some belated batting form, but could not press home to victory over the Masters XI. Trailing by 132 runs on first innings, the Reds piled on 381 in their second turn at the crease. The Masters XI were made to chase 250 for victory, and after slipping to 84-3, they recovered to a 6-wicket win.

CW Red chose to bat first, but were met with the champion spin bowling of Shane Warne, finally finding his feet in the Dev League. Displaying his full array of deliveries, Warne snapped up 4 wickets in the middle order and left Mørk watching on from the pavilion with his head in hands. The top score came from Rob Dauth - 55 - as the Masters XI were inspired enough to take all their chances and half-chances. Dauth eventually poked at a slider and was caught at slip, but Kingsley Clapham (29) fought on with the tail to push the score from 110-8 to 151 all out.

It was not long into the Masters innings that CW Red hit back. First David Kennett beat a tentative prod by Wavell Hinds and was bowled without scoring. Ed Smith played a couple of good straight drives, then edged Kingsley Clapham to third slip when attempting another. Over the next 10 overs the Masters XI scored 55 runs, but Gaurav Nayak offered a lifeline by snapping up Brian Lara (29) to a loose pull shot. No further wickets fell on day one, and the Masters XI went to stumps on 132-3.

Day two belonged to Damien Martyn, in his finest flowing form he dispatched the seamers with ease. His 105 anchored the innings, as Inzamam-ul-Haq (33) and Lance Klusener (46) played with contrasting styles in support. But the bowling of Raghav, taking 4 wickets on season debut, was significant as it helped limit the innings to under 300. The Masters XI were all out for 283, taking a 132-run lead in the final session of day two. With poor weather looming the Reds returned to the crease needing a big effort to save another poorly played game.

They lost their captain for 1 and then Rob Dauth was stunningly caught by Ed Smith at short leg. The Reds then trailed by 70 runs when Jamee Gray took his place alongside Aseem Sharma. In most circumstances the batsmen would have played with care, but Sharma chose the path of attack. He was dropped twice on his way a half-century and closed the day on 58. The Reds began day three still trailing by 4 with 8 wickets intact. The focus of the morning session was the century-chase of Sharma, but after he was caught behind for 88, it shifted back to the tight contest on hand. Callum Thompson (55) and Gaurav Nayak (72) struck quickfire fifties but the efforts of the tail were most stunning. Between Kennett and Raghav some 210 balls were negotiated for only 16 runs and Clapham played another handy knock.

CW Red finished in the lead by 249 runs and the Masters XI faced 4 overs before the close of day three. It would have been a thrilling mini-session for the Reds, except Thompson dropped the simplest of chances of Hinds at fourth slip. On day four the Masters XI improved their opening partnership to 37 and then Hinds pushed a difficult chance back to the willing hands of Raghav. Clapham came into the attack and quickly snapped up Smith (27) and Martyn (14). At lunch the score was 96-3 and the game still evenly balanced. In the afternoon Mørk dropped an extremely tough chance off Inzamam, but the definitive miss could have been when Lara was put down by Dauth right after he had reached 50. Lara was put down again 37 runs later, but by then the game was firmly with the visiting side.

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Blue
Fardin Qayyumi CC

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

A hard-fought chase by Cricket Web Blue was led by Pete Young and resulted in a comfortable margin of 7 wickets in victory. CW Blue showed exceptional character against some very purposeful bowling, as the Colts fought their hardest to win their fourth consecutive first-class match this season.

The Colts batted first and posted 244. At the start of the season Manan Shah was signed by CW Blue after facing rejection by CW Colts. That was his inspiration to take 4 wickets, instrumental in a collapse from 206-5. The hard work was done by Butler and Jasotharan in partnership of 93 runs, but as the last 5 wickets tumbled for 38 runs, it was all swiftly undermined. CW Blue came to the crease late on day one and batted with confidence through to the close, 21-0.

Led by Tarick Weber, the Colts hit back on the second day. The middle order crumbled to spin, but Pete Young stood firm with 91 runs to prevent a dramatic collapse. Again the Colts bowlers shared the wickets around well, though some late innings scrapping by Gareth Gooljar and Adam Collins secured a lead of 13 runs for CW Blue. The slim CW Blue lead seemed inconsequential and the game evenly balanced, but CW Colts were already one wicket down before they overhauled it. And just prior to the third day's lunch, Demeza took his second wicket, Griffen (22) caught at second slip.

The procession continued in the afternoon session. First Towns (18) played on to Demeza, then Butler (3) drove loosely to supply first slip with a catch. At 54-4 the Colts of previous seasons would have wilted totally and slumped to defeat. But there was still much fight in the innings. Shan Jasotharan played his typically aggressive role - 62 from 64 - though Will Kerr counted the best shot of the match - a perfectly played cover drive - as he topscored with 71. Their partnership of 146 was broken by Liam Camps, and Shah pushed on from the breakthrough with the wickets of Kerr and Wilson in quick succession. Nick Hancock fought bravely and scored 43, while Tarick Weber scored 27 in the eventual total of 301.

CW Blue needed 289 to win and the game was evenly poised. But CW Colts took the initiative to strike twice early and at 36-2, Pete Young was forced to buckle down with vice-captain Rob Cribb for the remainder of the afternoon session. At tea the score was 74-2 and when bad light brought the day to an early end, it was 146-2. The batting was more positive on the fifth morning, and Pete Young pushed Wilson into the offside to bring up his ton. An over later Cribb scored two runs to get to 50. It was then with muted celebrations that Cribb was bowled by Wright for 58, though it offered the Colts a lifeline in the game. Sean Fuller took guard and continued with stonewalling as a strategy of chasing.

Jasotharan missed a very difficult catch off Fuller, and the next opportunity came when the game was all but won by CW Blue. Young swiveled on the back foot and pulled the ball into the lap of Wilson, only to see the allrounder drop the catch. The next 19 runs were a formality, and Young was unbeaten on 160 with Fuller on 35.

Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Green
Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Cricket Web Green showed a lot of spirit against their more decorated rivals, but the quality of Cricket Web Black eventually shone brightly enough to inspire a 9-wicket win. After a first innings total of 385, the Greens had CW Black struggling on 136-4, but the Blacks showed incredible depth in batting and asserted their dominance in the second half of the match.

The story of the first innings was the achievement of Chris Raftery, scoring his maiden first-class ton and run out for 106. The final 3 wickets cost 123 runs, with Xavier Rose in particular offering staunch support to Raftery. The unusually plucky performance by CW Green looked to have surprised the Blacks, but no more so than the impact of Martyn Corrin with the ball. A partnership of 85 between Dan Smith and Ashley Arnold was broken by Corrin, and he took 2 more wickets in the same over with his legspin. When Smith (57) was caught soon after by his opposite number, CW Black looked in serious disarray, still trailing by 249.

The revival was started by Gerard Armstrong and Ash Chaulk, though the latter was a fourth victim of Corrin's shortly before the close. On day three the CW Black lower order were outstanding in support of Armstrong, ushering him to a second consecutive hundred and gradually deflating the spirits of CW Green. Dave Richards also looked set for a second hundred on the trot, but he was bowled around his legs by Halsey when all threats looked to have been nullified. And to reinforce the dominance of CW Black, Pickup and Patrick survived a combined 53 balls for the final wicket.

The Greens faced 4 overs and lost one wicket before stumps on day three. On day four they resumed trailing by 80 runs with 9 wickets intact. Whatever hope lay in that equation was fired out by some disciplined and aggressive bowling. Nath Patrick and Blake Donald reduced CW Green to 44-5 and then handed them over to the spinners. The next three wickets were accounted for by Neil Pickup, the last of which was Andrew Garven for 20. Again Rose put his head down, with some help from the poor catching of Donald, and CW Green managed to crawl to a meek 130 all out.

CW Black were left with 44 runs to win. Though Ethan McNamara trapped Arnold adjacent for 9, there were few hassles in the 18.3 overs of the chase.
