Semi serious question.

Who would win in a Test series between a team made up of 3x Kallis and 8 local average club cricketers versus New Zealand?

The 8, surely.

How bad would it be to have 1 fielder? Not to mention Kallis is hardly a crash-hot wicketkeeper.

Haha. Was probably obvious to most, not so to me. :p

Hmm, that's one hell of a tough question TBH. I'd go for the 3xKallis+8-club-players. Club cricket in New Zealand, they say, is of a pretty damn good standard, just sadly rare.

Kallis, Martin's the only New Zealander who is comparably a better bowler than Jacques.

This is the New Zealand side playing in the Test being played at the time of this post, rather than one containing their three best seamers Franklin, Bond and Oram, yes?

If it's a NZ side at what I'd call full-strength, would go for that.

Don't know about that, Oram has bowled pies for the past eighteen months. Kallis always guarantees you a wicket regardless of the surface, extremely canny bowler whilst Jacob has become pretty one note.

Haha, I know this is in jest, but I'll try:

Kallis averages 64 with the bat against New Zealand. So three of them would score 192 by themselves, plus you want to give the other eight a combined score of 160. Assume 25 extras in addition, especially as we'll pick mostly frontline club batsmen for this purpose (so seven of them should average something like 20) and just one-two bowlers. So that comes out to be 377 runs.

However, with the ball, Kallis isn't too hot vs. New Zealand. He averages 38, so you'd think they'd score 380 if only the three of them bowl.

Holy crap, it's closer than it has any right to be. :laugh:

Kallis > Oram as a Test bowler on a non-seaming surface, but to say Oram's "bowled pies" is quite untrue. He's rarely offered any great threat, no, but in only one Test in his career where he's bowled many overs that he's gone for more than 2.7-an-over or so.

Oram isn't the most incisive bowler ever, but he's exceptionally rarely a pie-chucker.

Certainly did (I guess you probably didn't read my match-reports where I said such). One of these, too, was on a relatively flat surface.

However, unfortunately he didn't offer any great incision in the Test. Then, more unfortunately still, he got injured.
