Damn my flatmate for unsubscribing from Sky's sports channels to save us $20 per month!
"There's no sports on, you don't need anymore".

Looks like I'm missing something rare, NZ doing well in a test against a non-minnow side.

Loving the way the blackcaps are performing atm, i seriously hope they improve their position as a test team during the course of this series.

de Villiers batting like a pro. Such a top athlete. Glad the Kiwis are on top. Anyone going for South Africa?

Shane Bond gets AB.

Can he get any more gun? So good seeing him in the whites again.

We should get the last four batsmen out without an incredible amount of trouble. Hopefully we manage it.

Yeah, but we have to get Pollock out ye-- ...oh, wait.
Pollock's still about SA's best bowler, he is definitely one of their 6 best batsmen and is a thorough professional in the field yet hacks like Amla still get picked in the X1 whilst he cant - I'm so glad they removed the racial quota system 8-)

Carn' NZ. They play so little test cricket, you gotta hope they win when they finally wear the whites!

Mind you, I'm looking forward to seeing SA bowl on this deck. Reckon Ntini and Steyn could do some damage.

Great stuff from Bond, Martin and Vettori, and good supporting work from O'Brien and Oram. So much depends on Fleming now. If he can get in, and bat with the middle order tomorrow, then 300+ is still possible. Damn shame Cumming had to go before stumps, but things could be worse I suppose. Can our middle order finally stand up?

South Africa will be staring down the barrel if the good weather seen in the New Zealand innings continues tomorrow. Wicket was already losing its two paced nature when Cummings’ and Papps began their innings and doubtlessly if the sunshine does appear tomorrow (as expected) then 300 will be the bare minimum.

It was a brave decision by Smith, you can understand his rationale of wanting to bat, what with the cracks and expected weather but the captain and his fellow batsman really did not help themselves, in spite of the fantastic bowling conditions the New Zealanders enjoyed. Amla and Prince got fantastic deliveries and no one can begrudge them of that but the rest especially the captain’s dismissal was exceptionally poor.

Credit to the New Zealand though, Bond was good whilst even the weaker links, O’Brien and Oram bowled relatively decent lines and good fuller lengths.

Will be a long day (or two) for South Africa if they pitch up tomorrow and there are no clouds around.

Bond has a ridiculous S/R in Tests. If he can be injury-free for three-four years, he could quite possibly be the best player in the world.

Flem come on your argument is stupid, yeah sehwag may have got dropped.. but umm look at his record. we would take that anyway. even if we didnt open with fleming why not open with one of the middle order batsmen who wouldn't make the starting XI. Wont weaken the middle order and strengthens the top order because papps and cumming are just not good enough. I would even have more confidence in someone who just keeps slogging. Give me a quick 25 over a slow 12 and then getting out anyday.

And its not as if Technically papps and cumming are even sound, good bowlers will keep exposing them.

anyway great day NZ- Bond and Martin outstanding! infact the whole bowling effort was great.

Our catching is a worry though, how many of those easy high catches have we missed in the past 12 months??

Overall thrilled with day 1, way more than I expected. Lets hope we can cash in today.

Ya, its sad to think what kind of player he'd already be if not for the injuries. I was shocked to see he's only played 17 odd tests at his age. Maybe more amazing that NZ have only lost 1 of those.

Great bowling perfroamnce by our boys. Bond was awesome, O'Brien economical, Vettori pretty damn good, Oram tight while I have to give Martin some decent props as he's done his job well and helped us be in a strong position.

However, can our openers stay in longer than it takes to goto the bathroom ffs. Absolutely dire. Reckon Bond will score more than Papps and Cumming combined IMO.
