The final 50 - Countdown

31 to 50

At the bottom of the list, jointly holding 48th and 50th position are two England batsmen and a Kiwi fast bowler.

  • Nick Knight
  • Ian Bell
  • Bond

Both these players have one nominations each and no points since they are wild card entries from a discarded list. Their points only allow them to enter the fifty from below not to compete on points, not even with each other. :)

Making up the bottom 20 at joint number 31 are the following seventeen players. They are listed in alphabetical order. They have one nomination each.

Their single nomination makes them ineligible for their points to be considered.

  • Atherton
  • Cairns
  • Carlisle
  • Chanderpaul
  • Crowe
  • Cullinan
  • Flintoff
  • Hogg
  • MacGill
  • Malinga
  • May
  • Monty
  • Price
  • Rhodes
  • Taibu
  • Thorpe
  • Vaas
it was better to have a top 40 list.....:)

There is a request to rank the players from 31 to 40. So here they are.

They all have a single nomination as mentioned before but their rank in that single nomination gives them their points and hence this ranking from 31-40 amongst those earlier listed at 31-48. The single nomination increases the probability of their rank being completely skewed hence I would have prefered having them in a joint status.

31-40

Vaas
MacGill
Chanderpaul
Monty
Cairns
Cullinan
Shoaib
Rhodes
Taibu
Atherton

Its not difficult to guess the last five. In alphabetical order. Lara, McGrath, Murali, Tendulkar and Warne.

Anyone wants to guess the order of the top five ?

The Top five - by nominations

There were 35 valid nominations.
- Lara was the only one to recieve all 35 nominations.
- Murali recieved 34
- Tendulkar 33 and
- Warne and McGrath 32 each

Top spots.

- Murali leads those nominated to number one with 9 top nominations
- McGrath has 8 top spots
- Tendulkar and Warne have 5 each while Lara has three.

Top Five spots

- Inspite of just 3 top spots, Lara has 31 top five nominations (out of 35)
- Tendulkar has 25
- Murali has 24
- McGrath has 23 and
- Warne has 22

Its clear that those who support Murali or Warne arevery strong in their support while Lara has universal support without the passionate bond with his supporters.

Top ten

- Lara has ALL his nominations in the top 10
- McGrath and Warne have all but two of their nominations in the top 10
- Murali and Tenulkar have all but 1 of their nominations in top ten

Anyone wants to make another attempt at their order ?

I assume one of those is meant to be Lara.

I think Tendulkar deserves to be # 1 in every list, as Warne said Tendulkar plays under the weight and pressure of the expectations of 1 billion cricket crazy Indian fans for the last 18 years and he has achieved all that he has under that sort of pressure which is really a sign of a true genius.

McGrath had 8 top spots to Warne's 5? I would have sworn it was the other way around.
Good you pointed it out. It allowed me to make a correction.

I was also surprised but it is true that McGrath has more top spots than Warne. But McGrath has seven (not 8 as earlier reported) to Warne's 5.

Here are how people voted for their top player.

THE FABULOUS FIVE

At number five we have the finest fast medium bowler of the modern era.

With an astounding seven top spots (second in this list) we give to you

- With 366 aggregate points from his 32 rankings
- Glen Pigeon McGrath at # 4

Followingvery close behind is another Australian bowler. At number four we have the bowlers many consider the greatest leg spinner of all times.

- Its amazing that four of those who voted did not consider him good enough for their fifteen.

- Considering that he was the only current cricketer to be voted as one of Wisden's five cricketers of the century, itis surprising that he occupied only five top spots in a list made up only of current cricketers.

We present to you,
with 369
aggregate rating points

from his 32 nominations,

Shane warne at #5
