I dont insult until the other insult. No insults - Don't insult people. Pretty straight-forward, that one. This includes insults directed towards both individuals and groups of people.
No flame wars - This is basically when two people are in an argument on the forums and resort to personal attacks on each other. No tolerance will be given for this sort of thing. Just keep in mind that you are arguing via text on a public message board... Is there really a clean cut winner? I suggest you keep that sort of thing on someone else's board or some instant messaging service.
No trolling/baiting - This is where you constantly make digs at a member who doesn't appreciate it with the hope of annoying them and/or getting a negative reaction out of them. Don't do it.
Forum atmosphere - Members causing detrimental effects to forum atmosphere are subject to bans.
In that case,I dont insult until the other insult.
I dont attack personally until they are personal attacks on me
There is no wrong in supporting my own team. You can look back at the posts in this thread. Until and unless there is some thing against me, I didnt insult/attack anyone
Well, with that sentence it's clear your a journalist, my apologies.........
Completely agree. CW used to be special for me because of the quality of posters around here. Unfortunately, that seems to be a thing of the past and this thread has recently given glimpses of Cricbuzz. Perhaps something is being done behind the scenes (doubtful) but otherwise, the moderation in this case has been embarrassing. I can't believe this guy is still around. Do we have a rule against creating a terrible forum atmosphere? That should be at the top of the list and the moderators should be able to make a judgment that is "not up for discussion", as usual.Dead set, you are one absolute idiot.
I've never seen someone actually degrade someone for having 'too few posts', its generally the other way around.
If something isn't done about you soon, I reckon there's going to be a few people posting in these tour threads a lot less often, myself being one of them.
Cheers for ruining the atmosphere of the board
There has been ALOT of discussion about it in the mod forum and we have decided on a way to handle the matter and a course of action to go forward, so your calling the way we have handled the matter 'disgraceful', to me, is pretty misguided to say the least, not to mention the mods have been on top of him from day 1, specifically SS and Prince EWS.Completely agree. Oh yeah, please don't pull out the default "these things should be discussed off the forums" card. How many times have I reported posts and sent e-mails to the moderation team? Yes, there has been some action and I appreciate that ... but this guy has been warned several times and he still hasn't stopped. I am usually one to defend and support the moderation team but this is disgraceful. The moderation team has some intelligent folks so I expect much better than this.
Yes, I know there has been plenty of discussion; that's great but that's not moderation. If you have a plan, fair enough - I hope it works. I also expressed my appreciation of the moderation from SS and Prince EWS but quite frankly, it's not even close to enough. There has been ALOT of discussion about it in the mod forum and we have decided on a way to handle the matter and a course of action to go forward, so your calling the way we have handled the matter 'disgraceful', to me, is pretty misguided to say the least, not to mention the mods have been on top of him from day 1, specifically SS and Prince EWS.
You know HB, the problem with Karthik is not that he cant field or is lazy (unlike people like Munaf) but that he behaves like a Jack-in-the-box. He sometimes does that at the batting crease also but seems to have calmed down a bit in the tests. I would still like to see more of fewer-edges-more-leaves type of batting from him.SJS was quite severe putting Karthik among the hopeless ones, but we saw yesterday that a good chase and a good dive from him resulted in getting Pieterson out.
It's very sad, but it's the truth.Completely agree. CW used to be special for me because of the quality of posters around here. Unfortunately, that seems to be a thing of the past and this thread has recently given glimpses of Cricbuzz.
My going away for longer stretches has at least as much to do with the vitiated atmosphere as with my slightly indifferent health. I think we have a problem which needs to be set right. In my experience this has been one of the finest forums on the net. I am not an internet freak and do not go about spending long hours on chat forums. The one earlier stint before this came to an end for similar reasons. I then discovered CW. It was like a breath of fresh air. By and latge the discussion was healthy, the atmosphere very friendly, the tone polite and one felt like one was amongst particularly civilised and well brought up people. Please do not misconstrue these words as condescendingfor they are not. This is just to indicate how very differnt CW has been from most of what goes around on chat forums. It would be tragic if we lost this admirable thing called 'great atmosphere'.It's very sad, but it's the truth.
depends on how he goes in the Twenty20 WC, I reckon....hey guys,
Just a quick info off topic. How has irfan pathan been doing in domestic circuit. Is there any chance that he might atleast play the home series in india later this year.
What was that about ?Yes, I know there has been plenty of discussion; that's great but that's not moderation. If you have a plan, fair enough - I hope it works. I also expressed my appreciation of the moderation from SS and Prince EWS but quite frankly, it's not even close to enough.
By the way, I called the moderation embarrassing (because I hold you guys in high regard) - disgraceful referred to the overall situation at hand.
Well said SJS
.
top post, sir......My going away for longer stretches has at least as much to do with the vitiated atmosphere as with my slightly indifferent health. There were (and still are) some absolutely wonderful people here and one felt a desire to meet these people personally and cultivate their friendships beyond the internet. For someone as old as me (from nearly two generations before some of the younger people) this was a fantastic experience. On top of that theer were so many knowledgeable people to talk to. Passion and love of the game is a near given on such forums bu depth knowledge is becoming an increasingly difficult commodity to come across in the game's followers. So even when we differed it was because someone had a different point of view not because we just insisted on having the last word come what may - Richard excepted - kidding.
Of course there were exceptions but they were never allowed to hijack the forum. Some incorrigible exceptions were tolerated and smiled at and sometimes banned when they crossed the limits but most importantly members politely but firmly indicated to the transgressor when undefined lines of whats proper were being crossed. Not just by the person to who an insult was addressed.
We dont just need more or better moderators, we need better moderation by all those who are NOT nominated as moderators but have the interest of the forum at heart.
As far as official moderation is concerned, I have no idea how it works and whatare the parameters so my comments that follow are not specifically addressed to any failing on the part of the moderators.
I think moderation doesnt have to start just when someone uses really intolerable language. If you are really aware and vigilant you can smell a problem much before it becomes a real mess. Course correction, mild but firm rebukes, etc are extremely important but work only if they are timely. You can see a bad egg, you can see atrouble maker but even if you cant do this, surely you can see who is willing to listen (even to a mild rebuke) and who is perrenially defiant. The second lot are clearly 'possible' trouble. They need to be 'handled' quickly.
We dont have to agree with all that the moderators do but we do have to 'obey' the 'law'. Ifwe do not agree get in touch with James off the forum.
Finally someone here said
I dont insult until the other insult.
I dont attack personally until they are personal attacks on me
This is a perfect example of what is wrong here. Who says its okay to follow an insult on you with an insult in response ? If tit for tat is what is being suggested then this is not going to improve the atmosphere. This is a call for all out abuse.
If you are insulted. You have other options. State in firm and decent words that you do not appreciate that. If it continues, report to James. In any event there is such a thing as an ignore option. I have more than a dozen people there. I doubtif I have really been 'insulted ' by any of them. Its mostly people who just cant discuss rationally and some who tend to take everything personally and immediately resort to the kind of language one does not use with friends.
I am here to be with friends. If I find someone I cant really be friendly with, the ignore option is a wonderful tool for me never to 'find' . 'hear' or be tempted to respond to those who arent friendly. I dont come here to spoil my mood so why should I get into an argument once I have realised that this is getting ugly or unbecoming of how friends behave with each other.
Mind you it could be because of how I am too. I am not passing any judgements here on those in my ignore listexcept that they and I are perhaps not a match made in heaven
Yes, once in a while I do lose my cool butthe moment my temperature comes down, I say sorry, be as polite as I can to the person concerned and bid him goodbye - for good.
Try it , it works.
I had posted something similar more than a year back. Since then the forum has changed a bitand we have lost quite a few important members. We need to worry if some of them are gone because they dont enjoy beinghere anymore. We need to understand that quality is what made CW not numbers.
I actually totally agree with that all, SJS, but I just think you were a tad severe on him putting him amongst the hopeless ones. You know HB, the problem with Karthik is not that he cant field or is lazy (unlike people like Munaf) but that he behaves like a Jack-in-the-box. He sometimes does that at the batting crease also but seems to have calmed down a bit in the tests. I would still like to see more of fewer-edges-more-leaves type of batting from him.
But on the field he behaves like Dhoni does at the crease when he first comes into bat. There is this nervous energy which refuses to let him calm down. He reminds me a lot of Kaif fielding close to the wicket, particularly in the slips. He looked so uncomfortable. He almost looked as if he was missing the 'start' he takes at cover when berring in as the bowler approached the bowling crease. Butat least kaif was not 'tense' (for want of a better word) in the outfield.
Fielding is not about tension. Most great fielders are all about reaxation and stillness of the head (inside and outside). Thas what Kaarthik fails to do and hence the shockers from someone who , otherwise, has all the makings and, more importantly, the attitude of a top class fielder.
Till he corrects that you will keep getting from him brilliant pieces of fielding interspersed with absolute shockers.
Oh of course. He is not hopeless.I actually totally agree with that all, SJS, but I just think you were a tad severe on him putting him amongst the hopeless ones.
And honestly, we have to understand that fielding is new to him as well and I do believe that he will tone it down and get better as we go along. Now the trouble would be, are the team management willing to be patient with him?
Karthik is a better fielder than many others in the Indian side. But he sometimes become over-enthusiastic and loses his concentration on the field. He must control himself on the ground for the sake himself and for the team. The only concern about him is that, he becomes hero by a catch and he drops too many which are silly to his standards. I hope Robin Singh will speak to him on this.Oh of course. He is not hopeless.
I was just trying to show how many of the fielders in today's side have a problem compared to whatseemed to be an improving Indian side last year.
I have no doubt Karthik can turn out to be one outr our better fielders.
