Is that the game where he trod on his stumps and was given not out?Mark Waugh vs South Africa to draw the Test, in Adelaide. Would have been roughly 97/98.

What was the umpire's reasoning not to give him out? I can't recall, but I do remember Cronje's retaliation to certain sections of Adelaide infrastructureYeah. I don't think he trod on his stumps, his bat hit the stumps.
No roughly about it pal.Mark Waugh vs South Africa to draw the Test, in Adelaide. Would have been roughly 97/98.
Yes I read he often fell asleep before going in to bat, even in Test MatchesTrue mate, but it was just all part of that laconic, laid-back charm.
You just have to be in awe of anyone who can be that cool about Test cricket. What might Norman O'Neill have achieved with that kind of mindset?Yes I read he often fell asleep before going in to bat, even in Test Matches
O'Neill is quoted in one of Jack Fingleton's books[archie might know which one] as stating he needed a few beers before batting.Well I suppose the sun was over the yardarm. You just have to be in awe of anyone who can be that cool about Test cricket. They say he was also great to watch, maybe our old QLD mate can tell us how he compared to in style to Mark WaughYou just have to be in awe of anyone who can be that cool about Test cricket. What might Norman O'Neill have achieved with that kind of mindset?
Not sure which one that comes from, he is very frustrating (Jack) never has an index in any of his books Still a great writerO'Neill is quoted in one of Jack Fingleton's books[archie might know which one] as stating he needed a few beers before batting.Well I suppose the sun was over the yardarm.
Absolutely, my dad always says he was one of the best players to watch he ever saw, but that he suffered so badly from nerves that he didn't achieve what he could have. They say he was also great to watch, maybe our old QLD mate can tell us how he compared to in style to Mark Waugh
Norm was offered a pro Baseball (USA) contract but turned it down to play cricket
I wonder is there anyone on this forum that could put together an Australian cricket team that could have given a fair account of themselves at BB
O'Neil, Chappelli, Ponsford, Harvey ?
How old are you mate? (if you don't mind me asking)Absolutely, my dad always says he was one of the best players to watch he ever saw, but that he suffered so badly from nerves that he didn't achieve what he could have.
As for baseball - well AB was a top class baseballer before he was a top cricketer as far as I know, and Stan McCabe did pretty well at his one attempt ("How can you miss? They're all bloody full tosses!").
I hope those poms have not changed your 'twang':as yet laugh:I'm 29 mate.
TBH I never had much of a twang to begin with - I'm always told I sound the least Aussie of any of the many, many, many Aussies over here.I hope those poms have not changed your 'twang':as yet laugh:
