Next, the legendary sides move on to the vicious pace and bounce of Barbados.

Aussies: will you persist with Hayden and Warne? what about Spofforth?
West Indians: time to revert to a four-pronged attack?

I would give Haydos 1 more chance, based purely on his efforts in Aus.
Warnie, I think he may be carrying a shoulder injury, I move to give him a rest for the final two tests.
Thoughts?

Oh yes my bad, I missed the Series in Australia and didn't know he scored 100s in both innings of a test. What was the end result, or what page number says it all? cheers.

Barbados, eh? licks lips :D

I agree, time to revert to a 4 prong attack.
The lower order was overly fragile, and besides, I dont think the 5 prong attack played too much of a determining role in the win - though I think it did help, somewhat. That, and Hunte's century, and another great partnership between Lara and Sobers.

I would drop Roberts, as he did little of great significance.

So, play Marshall, Ambrose, Garner, Holding.

Walcott to 7, and Weekes in at 5 with Sobers dropping down to 6.

One more thing - is Rohan Kanhai in the squad?

Because I would rather play him out of Headley/Worrell/Weekes at 5.

Warney's definitely not enjoying the conditions over there - reckon Lindwall or Davo might have to step in for the great man.

Australia's 4th innings batting collapse came back to haunt them after another superlative Bradman century on a difficult wicket led them to a handly first innings lead. However the Windies really turned it on the second innings, led by a magnificent knock from Conrad Hunte, and despite DK Lillee's heroic effort, supported well by Miller, the Aussies folded like paper and have given this great West Indian side a sniff of getting back into this series.

It's all to play for in Barbados.

If we're dropping Warne - and I'm not convinced that's the best idea, we should include Davo to prevent our attack becoming too one-dimension.

I'd get Simpson in for Hayden.

Brilliant effort by Lillee btw. A lesser bowler would be disheartened maybe to take have an 11 wicket match and their team still go down, but I think he'll be fighting mad at the next test.

Also, what's Bradman's cumulative runs total for this series so far? Might be on course for a 900 run series?

Totally agree with you

XI for Barbados then:

Hunte
Greenidge
Weekes
IVAR*
Lara
Sobers
Walcott+
Marshall
Holding
Ambrose
Garner

12th Roger Harper

If you are going to drop Warne, harsh as it may be & want to fight the windies pace attack on that wicket. Australi should throw back a 4-prong at the windies as well since an attack of Lillee/McGrath/Lindwall/Miller on that wicket will be just as lethal as anything the windies.

So pick 6 bats, Miller 7, Gilly 8 & Lillee/McGrath/Lindwall to bring up the rear..

Warne hasn't been setting the tour alight but I think it's too harsh to drop him for 1 poor match. Essentially, the game is about stats, and Warne is up there. He really should be due too.

FYI, Warne has taken 4 wickets @ 93 apiece on this tour thus far. My advice to the Aussie selectors - negate the WI pace advantage and throw back a McGrath-Lillee-Spofforth-Davidson-Lindwall-Miller (of course, not all of them) of your own.

Tbh, if I was an Aus selector, I would take advantage of the Aussie depth.

Therefore, I would still bat Miller at 6, Gilly at 7, followed by Davidson, Lindwall, Lillee and McGrath. Both Davidson and Lindwall can bat, so that makes a short tail, and an extremely potent and effective 5 man pace attack - perhaps the best ever?

Home selectors - Weekes or Viv at 3?
Hmm, thats an interesting question. Viv's had a patchy run of late, hasnt he?
But the W's havent fired either, either in Aus or at home in the WI.

Maybe shake things up a little: Weekes, Lara, Viv, Sobers, Walcott etc.

I take it Kanhai is not in the squad? And there is no way of calling him up? :(

Edit/ Adharcric, how has Amby been doing in the series? The thought crossed my mind that maybe the WI selectors should think of dropping Amby and perhaps re-uniting an attack of Marshall, Holding, Roberts, Garner?

Kanhai didn't make the cut. Viv-Lara-Weekes for me, I'd back Richards to come out with a bang when it matters most.

Fair enough, that was my original selection. Though we need roseboys input too.

What are your thoughts on Amby?

Definately, but if we want to make this thing look realistic. Millers workload could be telling on him now after all these tests don't you think??. Given the historical account of his bowling & the nature of the bridgetown pitch he could be a real menace.

So as i said strengthen the batting by picking 6 bats, Keith 7 less reliance on his batting in this test, Gilly & the rest.

Ha, both sides are guaranteed to live Bridgetown with a few on the injured list..
