***Official*** India in England

I know I will probably get a lot of stick for saying this, but I thought Dravid made the right move. If you enforce the follow on and the odd chance that England stay in there and make 500 odd, you're faced with a scoring a tricky 150 on a 5th day pitch. Given India's history of collapsing on the fourth innings that would be a tad risky.

Dravid's obviously planned for all contingencies and thought the possible risk of facing a tricky 4th innings target was too high. It's a very defensive approach but India's primary objective is still to ensure that they DON'T lose the game, by with batting again they enable their bowlers a bit of a break and can bat freely knowing they will be increasing their lead and not chasing a target.

They should bat till there's 150 overs left and give England a target of 500 odd. If England can chase that they bloody well deserve to level the series and it's not as if Dravid has egg on his face.

I know they haven't started well (2/10 when I last checked) but I'll back em to still score 150+ in which case the asking target is still 500.

Oh man Tendulkar out rant over

228 runs at 38 good enough for another stay?

But that's the thing, if England make 500 odd, India would only have about 20 overs to negotiate. Collapse or not, they can do that! If they have more than 50 overs, then the lead wouldn't be all that high.

Sorry, I just rationalized my whole argument on the proviso that they pitch was perfect for batting. Damn weather just screwed my whole case

Yes IMO, especially considering he was sawn off on 91 and would have almost definately gone on to score a hundred, and likely a decent sized one.

I don't know. It is mediocre by someone of his standards. He had two good scores, but a couple of low ones. If he is replaced, it shouldn't be by Gambhir or Yuvraj though.

In any case, the ideal situation would be him retiring.

India wouldn't deserve to win this test if they couldn't negate 20 overs without losing 10 wickets.

An average of 38 for the series is a neither here nor there. You can't hang him/praise him - the question now is Is he still better than any of his replacements ??

I think so, as he is remodelled is game from a world class attacking batsman to a solid, stickable batsman which is still a better game style than his more flashy replacements - Yuvraj, Gambhir, Sharma etc.

Certainly not. You only have to watch him out there to see he's struggling big time. He's done poorly in my eyes.

But then again there's no one to really take his place...so India's poor depth is saving him.

I still have confidence that India will win this - we should be able to scrounge another 100 runs and the target then is 450 which IMO given the form the English batsman have been in is nigh on impossible
