Socceroos and Australian Football

1-1 at halftime in Extra Time. Aussie playing the counter-attack quite well with Kewell and defending in numbers. That Aussie no die attitude is really showing.

It goes to penalty kicks - an absolutely amazing save by Schwarzer in the final 30 seconds saved Australia.

Come on Australia.

Who the heck paid the ump? I know we're tough, but that is ridiculious! Diving? Anything but! Red Card? Damaging yes, but the Jap player should've seen it coming...

Oh well, at least Aloisi is closer to that record...

Exciting match at the end though, full credit to Australia for sticking with it a man down. Brilliant save toward the end from Schwarzer as well although was abit perplexed as to why he didn't even move for one of the penalties (third or fourth). Good game nonetheless.

Okay calmed down a bit. Basically I said, the ref was a ****, cause he is and the carney dive was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen made in the history I've been watching and playing football. The Grella red card was an absolute joke of a decision, but not as bad as carney's "dive" It was still totally wrong and basically it completely ruined Australia's game and had a massive impact on what was a sensational game of football.

Some excellent football was played and both teams were very good. A very even, hard fought and incredibly interesting football game that was blighted and totally shaped by one ridicilous refereeing decision. Generally though he was very harsh on Australia, we did anything but dive and more often than not Aloisi and Viduka held their feet when they were clear fouls. Despite losing the ball because we were being held back or kicked yet still standing the ref just waved play on. All we had to do was breath on a jap and it was a free. Had no problem with the way the japs played though, they didn't do anything wrong. But the ref was an absolute joke, appalling game from him.

Just so sad to see such a great game ruined by ridiculous refereeing. Fair play to the Australians who defended and fought absolutely heroically in the circumstances. Culina has to be commended, the guy was absolutely immense. Every single pass he made found an Australian and the numer of tackles he made was simply incredible. I don't think I even saw him make one foul or make any tiny error, sensational. Schwarzer was also brilliant and Neill and Beauchamp were also incredible. Milligan was superb but had the one blight which lead to a very lucky japanese goal.

Japan will be delighted with that win, because they had to work incredibly hard for it and were still extremely lucky to come away with it despite having basically a man and a half extra. Had absolutely no confidence in Kewell or Neill though for some reason, just hate getting that feeling and I had it with those too. Shame I was right :(

I know how you feel; Neill blew a couple when ridiculously as it sounds was Rovers chief penalty taker. Have not seen the saves from Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi but that guy is really small by goal keeping standards, so presumably the penalties must have not been all that pretty from Kewell meister and Lucas?

Wonder if Australia will ditch Arnold after this? And now with Gerard Houllier being unemployed they can the get the man who was heavily favoured after the World Cup. Houllier's also big mates with Kewell, so unlike Arnold he will have the senior players 'respect' and doubtlessly full commitment, which Arnold has called into question.

Not a nice way to go out but at least Brett Emerton can possibly return for the Intertoto Cup (second leg), should be really fit as well given the severe training conditions in Indochina.

He most likely would have been anticipating to go the other way, but probably wasn't sure and waited too long to decide for certain. Meaning that when the shot was taken, he would have been ready to go to the left, but not to the right, which is where it was hit, so in the end, he was left just standing there. Has happened to me a few times, so I'm guessing that's why.
