Oman and Iraq drew 0-0 and Iraq finished top of group with 5 pts, with Australia finishing equal with Thailand on 4 pts, but finish 2nd due to head to head.

Some positive signs in defence i though both centre backs had a good games. Carney added more variety to the attack down the left, but he got owned defence. I think we will struggle down the left hand side in defence with we play both Bres and Carney. Grella and Culina were fairly poor still overall, but did some good things. Hopefully they step up against Japan.

Will be a tough call whether to start Kewell and Cahill, in most matches in this Asian Cup, matches are won and loss in the last 30 minutes. You want those to still a good fitness by then, not running on empty.

I saw the Japan game as well and their playing ok, but not that great either. Like Australia, 4-1 did make their performance better then what it was. Most sides however have been playing below par throughout the tournment. I'm expecting the big guns to start to fire now its knockout.

Good win by australia in the end, althou Thailand had better of the second half.. probaly could've scored few goals too but didn't have the firepower up front.
That defence still looks very shaky for australia against a quality side they would've been ripped. Too much space given to opposition players, no marking.. people were just running through the defence unmarked, i dare to say but my club team defends better than that. I also don't get the deal with trying to pass the ball around in defence with pressure on you, just boot it out of their, there few times aus got lucky that there defence's stuff ups didn't cost the game.

I hope Cahill starts the next match over Breciano, Cahill's plays much better than him, soon as he came on, he made a huge difference. Cahill has a good stamina and good positioing along with decent shot and passing. Breciano was nowhere to be seen in the second half. He's probaly still not fit enough yet. That Miligan guy is pretty **** and LB is pretty awful at defending as well. Surely there are better players available.

Lets hopeits repeat of world cup match and aus goes through to semi-final.

Interms of left back no, Twaite the only other option in defence. He can play left back but with the style of football they are trying to play then want their left backs to go forward and he doesn't do that. He did ok in defensive against Uruguay but got caught out once too often. The bigest problem Carney had and Wilkshere in the previous games is that Bresciano doesn't drop back in defend if Carney or Wilkshere went forward. In the World Cup either Sterjovoski or Culina dropped back if Chipperfield went up.

I thought Milligan did ok but he got caught out positionally a fair bit, but cus they wanted he to go forward and start attacks. The same thing happened to Kisnorbo in the 1st two games. But when Thailand counter attacked he was caught too far up the field. Really they should just focus on defending and let Grella and Culina start attacks. Milligan tackling was pretty awsome but, a tad reckless though.

Viduka and Bresciano are ****ing lazy ****s. They're entirely at fault for bringing on almost every attack in this entire cup by doing absolutely no pressuring further up the pitch. Every time we get the ball at the back we get squeezed, why the hell don't we do it to other teams? Sure, he scores 2 goals, but he did **** all else and was at fault for Australia being under so much pressure. Culina and Grella had to work unbelievably hard because of him and it showed in their tired passing. Holman, as absolutely appallingly bad as he is, atleast tried to pressure the Thai's when he came on!

I agree with you on Bresciano.. he was awful and never in right position. Didn't see much of him defenidng in the second half or in the first half for that matter.
I don't get the point of defenders playing so far up.. they should be defending. If they have a lazy git like Breciano on the park.. even 2 defensive midfielders aren't going to be enough for teh team... lets coach has some sense and starts with Tim Cahill next match.. at least he'll try to put some pressure on opposition.

Fowler blows out Sydney

From the Beeb:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6281850.stm

Little surprised that it seems to have come down to money in the end. From what I've heard Fowler is absolutely minted & owns something like 100 houses which he lets out. The scousers actually sing (to the tune of Yellow Submarine) "We all live a Robbie Fowler house, a Robbie Fowler house, a Robbie Fowler house".

Yeah, you've heard correctly. It's always been the basis of the Fowler to Tranmere rumours that have been surfacing every April since he joined ShCity

Weird to see Milligan attacked in this thread. I thought he was fantastic against Thailand, made a huge difference coming into the side. I agree with Cahill starting though. The guy basically had 3 assists off the bench.

4-0 was hugely flattering obviously, but Australia were much more polished up forward and were pretty much always going to win for that reason alone. Viduka's first goal was pretty classy, deflection aside. Crazy that he's almost doubled his international goal tally in his last four games or whatever.

Is the Ref being as utterly dire as the Radio Commentators i'm listening to are making out? According to them the Kewell yellow, Grella Red, and Carney yellow were all dire decisions...

That's right too, I'm watching it live on Fox Sports now.

The ref is an absolute joke - its absolutely awful referring from him. That red card will definitely be over-ruled if the competition allow an appeal process and Australia end up winning.
