He wanted out because Smith doesn't rate him, basically. Smith has a history of coming across like that with certain players. Why release Clint Newton? Poor decision to force him out of the club when he's been nothing but good for us.
I don't understand why the rest of the team and club let him go though. If that's Smith's opinion, that's fine, but he's not the be-all and end-all of the club. I won't be surprised if a few others start looking elsewhere, Woolnough and Perry in particular. He wanted out because Smith doesn't rate him, basically. Newton asked for the release because he didn't feel wanted by the coach. The club granted him said release on the "if he doesn't want to here there's no point having him here" logic. Personally, I think he's a top player and largely under-rated, but he wasn't in Smith's plans.I don't understand why the rest of the team and club let him go though. I know he asked for it but i'm wondering why no-one else at the club tried to convince him to stay, at least to see out the season. I'm just a little confused by it all, i'm not sure why he wouldn't be in Smith's plans when there's nobody to replace him with. None of the juniors like Paterson and Snowden are ready to replace and as far as I know there's not many back rowers to replace him with. He's only 25 so it's hardly an age thing. It just seems to me like Smith is getting alot of players who are just NRL standard (and that's pushing it) like Vuna, both the MacDougalls, Sargent, Polglase and Franze. I just hope that with all the money that seems to be freeing up in the cap he buys some top-level rep players, not just alot of average ones.Newton asked for the release because he didn't feel wanted by the coach. Would Tate count if he ends up at your club then?I know he asked for it but i'm wondering why no-one else at the club tried to convince him to stay, at least to see out the season. Tate's coming to the Warriors apparently...(to alleviate the Vatuvai crisis hopefully)Would Tate count if he ends up at your club then?
Haha. Good call.Tate is going everywhere, thankfully it'll be anywhere but Brisbane...
I read today that Manly trying to sign Josh Perry, but Knights are going to give him a better offer soon so he doesn leave. I hope that offer comes soon, cus Josh Perry would be the biggest waste of space ever. We got King and Kite, but i don't think Kite has signed to a long term deal yet. Also Bryant, Hall and Rose are all off contract, Bryant should sign soon though.Haha. Good call.
Smith to clean out the Knights with 9 players said to be on the outer.
AFAIK Newton only signed until the end of the year. Not sure if he is seen as a long term option or as a replacement for Kafusi (sp?) and Crocker out with long term injuries.Josh Hannay and Brett Seymour have been prompley told that they have no future at Cronulla, and does anybody know anything more of Clint Newton signing for Melbourne (like contracts etc)?
Excellent. My Dad loves that bloke, but I don't rate him tbh. Hodges better sign with the Broncos, after we took him back.Brent Tate has signed with the Warriors for 3 years from next season
I think Tate's a good signing. Steve Price being his brother-in-law probably one of the main reasons. God knows the Warriors need a decent centre...and some halves...and some wings...and some 2nd rowers, and some...Excellent. My Dad loves that bloke, but I don't rate him tbh. Hodges better sign with the Broncos, after we took him back.
Knights won't be offering Perry a contract at all to my understandingI read today that Manly trying to sign Josh Perry, but Knights are going to give him a better offer soon so he doesn leave. NQ Cowboys are after Travis Burns, if they offer a decent wage, im pretty sure he will sign. Playing next to Thurston will increase his State of Orgin chances, as well as starting spot. There is no certainity at Manly, that with Monnas going he's going to get a starting spot as Ballin will probably start at hooker.
I was actually a bit surprised to hear that Manly are chasing any players, i was under the impression we were just trying to re-sign everyone first, as we have a lot of players coming off contract, like most clubs.
Will they be offering anyone a contract?Knights won't be offering Perry a contract at all to my understanding
Why did they sign Brent Tate then?God knows the Warriors need a decent centre
I certainly hope so, just so long as it isn't Josh PerryWill they be offering anyone a contract?
